Dear brothers and sisters the guy in the picture on my profile is my hero, teacher, and best friend in the world, and happens to be my father. He served the Tarboro Fire Dept. for 20 years as a volunteer, which I have been serving for 17 myself. The past couple of years have not been good for my dad with him losing his sight, and finding out he has cancer in which he is coming to radition treatment for. My dad means the world to me and I'm trying to construct a patch board at our station in his…

Its pretty sad when you hear someone say i dont care about the volunteer firemen or any firemen. And when you explain it could be them were pulling from a burning building they still dont appreciate it. I dislike people like this, anyone have any idea's to help them better explain? let me know!

I have just recently been voted Chief of our explorer post. I have been at our station the longest and I am the most experienced because of that. Most of our explorers were happy for me and wanted me to be chief but there were a few who got a little mad just because they were older than me. I figured I would just shrug it off and that worked. Now they all support me and don't try to argue what I say. But I do know that the fact of me being a girl created a few tensions too. Luckily the guys…

Officials believe that this may be the first step in further consolidations in the future. The vote passed by a slim 4-3 margin, giving North Bend until March 1 to…

Officers had their guns drawn at the Wachovia Bank at 1119 Broad Street during what was thought to be a robbery attempt. In actuality, a courier, Charles Montgomery, was trying to make a deposit for his company.

#1 PT- “Take this oxygen mask off me I can’t breathe with it on”
#2 PT-“I’ll get in the back faster if I go by ambulance”
Reply- “That’s not really true, you could imagine some people would call 911 for the silliest things just to cut in line in front of all the people in the waiting room”.
#3 Your on scene, you know you’re in trouble when your patient still has their armband and EKG patches on from the ER.

Hmmm....
I've never done this before. But what the heck- I'll start now. So I've been pretty excited starting with Flight for Life Colorado. This past week I've spent Mon/Tues at Littleton's Hospital on the OB floor watching deliveries. I'll sum it up with placentas are gross. But one mom delivered twins and that was pretty cool. Then one of my coworkers who's 34wks pregnant came in and that was different. I stayed away, kept some distance but said my hello and chatted for a bit. No…

Hey everybody!!! Hope everyone is well. Okay I need some; okay if anyone has read my blogs you know all of this is new to me and I have no clue half the time what my instructor is talking about, so the questions this week he gave us is to ask our local firefighters what is the point of no return? and he says five of them would not be able to tell you. And we need to find out the five top reasons, from FEMA, that firefighters lose their lives and what can we do to decrease. So if anyone has any…

What happens when you are at the top of your game, everyone is singing your praises, and you are reveling in the glory? Usually you wake up, but if you are living it, the feeling is sweet. But what’s next? Sure you invented a tool, a machine, asked the right question, or espoused some other new and improved way of doing something. Who the hell cares?
Do you think for a second that even Mick Mayers is going to change the way we read, write,…

In a short while I will be leaving the house to participate in an assessment center for District/Battalion Chief for my department. To say I'm excited would be an understatement. I've been working for this for such a long time and today I get to show them I've got what it takes to cut the mustard.
I can't help but think of all the people that have helped me prepare for this test, those that have helped shape my career and the support I've recieved from the guys at the station. It's a…

“Firefighters just like to hang-around the fire station and drink beer until there’s a fire.”
How many times have you heard someone express an opinion like this of Firefighters? Probably too many times. It’s a hard opinion to change when people read about Fire and EMS workers getting into trouble with the law for alcohol-related issues. It’s an opinion which is re-enforced by some fire stations in some parts of the country having bars on their premises.
Many departments,…
