One woman was injured in a blaze at Gall Hill, Christ Church, that destroyed one house and damaged another yesterday morning.
Cordella Burgess reportedly sustained burns to her shoulder, back and leg, after the rented two-bedroom house she shared with her sister Carmen and their five children caught fire.
Neighbour Jamar Bayne was one of the first people to offer help to Burgess as she dashed from the house with her clothes on fire.

“INSIDE OR OUT”
As the alarm rings out,
There’s a sound of a distant shout.
In the dark sky there’s a glow,
As the fire and flames start to grow.
Fear is the feeling in the air,
As everyone is starting to care.
Where was that shout?
Was it from the inside or out?
The intensity of the fire grows,
And then nobody knows.
Where was the shout?
Was it inside or out?
As the smoke grows thick,
And we started…

Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...January 10, 2009
I am in Vermont today with my two sons and their friend. My RE/MAX owner has graciously offered some of the agents free rooms, ski rentals and lift tickets at Magic Mountain. He owns the Inn here, and the kids and I so needed to get away.
I decided to snowtube as I don't ski...only tried it once about 25 years ago. I went to the top of what I thought was a HUGE hill and looked down and said uh uh. No way was I going down…

FIREFIGHTER FRIENDS
When a firefighter leaves the "job" and retires to a better life, many are jealous, some are pleased and yet others, who may have already retired, wonder. We wonder if he knows what they are leaving behind, because we already know.
We know, for example, that after a lifetime of camaraderie that few experience, it will remain as a longing for those past times. We know in a firefighters life there is a fellowship which lasts long after the uniforms are…

I’m pretty darned excited to be able to share that as of….well, right now actually….. I’ve joined Art aka “ChiefReason”, Mick Mayers and a group of very talented and passionate fire service bloggers on “TheKitchenTable” at www.firerescue1.com
I can’t state with any confidence or certainty that I’ve written anything of the same caliber as the folks I’ll be sharing that space with, but I will fully admit that I’m electrified and flattered to have been asked to join in. My writer’s soul…

On new years eve, I took delivery of a brand new Mercedes-Benz Vito Crew Cab van (long wheel base).
Here's a link to the MB website with a bit of background info to the model: http://tinyurl.com/ay55n4
Over the last couple of weeks, I've noticed a few things that could potentially be a "trap" for rescuers and thought I'd give a heads up to everyone.
Ignition: check out the key. It's not broken!…

Even though I don't consider myself a hero for what I do there are some people out there that call me and all emergency personnel hero's. Most of us don't look at what we do in that way. Do our actions allow for others to give us such a title? Here is the definition I found in the dictionary.
he·ro (hîr)
n. pl. he·roes
1. In mythology and legend, a man, often of divine ancestry, who is endowed with great courage and strength, celebrated for his bold exploits,…

If you're a firefighter, you probably know a thing or two about asbestos. But, if you don't, you SHOULD. What you don't know, quite frankly, could kill you.
What is Asbestos?
Asbestos is a naturally occurring toxin that - up until the institution of asbestos usage laws by the federal government in the early eighties - was popular in the development of a number of products, including drywall, stucco, floor, ceiling and roofing tiles, attic insulation, and automobile…

I noticed a few weeks ago that I seem to have obtained shit magnet status...you know, seeing stuff you've only read about, getting those runs that make you just want to go home and pretend that day never started. Nah, that's too dramatic of a statement...the girl in me comes out sometimes:^) Good learning experiences, that's what I meant to say.
In December, had a lovely ice storm that came through and caught everyone off guard. Although I must admit, being in Ohio it's hard to…

"Today’s dumbass award goes to a local! 23-year-old James Grayson allegedly went into Venus Adult Store yesterday morning, picked two or three videos and paid for them with cash from his wallet. When James opened his wallet to pay, the clerk saw his ID with his picture and the last name Grayson. then James allegedly pulled out a gun and robbed the store. The clerk was able to tell the police Jame’s last name and description, and police were able to track James to…
