Ok..so here is my first FFN blog.. i have blogged about stuff on myspace and gotten laughs and marks or whatever the hell they give you on there, but none of it really means much..lemme tell ya about a call i got the other day from one of our cadets..
This particular cadet is super gung ho when it comes to the fire service. He took a level one class earlier this yr, gives a ton of time to riding when he can, and pretty much knows his stuff for a cadet. He was calling to tell me that…

My Honor Guard just helped out with a funeral for a firefighter from a neighboring agency. It really affected me, I think that I'm just starting to get old and emotional. A few of my guys knew the fallen firefighter. I felt like I needed to do something more, so I put fingers to keyboard and I wrote a little synapsis of what a firefighter funeral is like. Just something that civilians might be able to read and relate to.
I wanted to share it with my brothers and sisters…

Someone, somewhere on here who regularly reads new blogs is going to see this and say to themself..."There she goes again, nagging about seatbelts again. What's the big deal?"
I'll tell you what the big deal is....firefighters are dying because they're too stupid or too invincible to wear their seatbelts. Here's another article about wearing them that I thought was good reading.…

Or at least that's what I'm hoping for. It is, after all, the off-season around these parts and subject to the occasional night with no calls. I chose to work a double for the last minute overtime, because there's nothing like 24 more hours of time-and-a-half on a Captain/Paramedic salary to make Christmas bill paying that much more cheery this year. And since this now officially appears to be my last year of OT eligibility, it's a little bittersweet. Because, for those of you who actually…

Well it is Friday and has been another slow week here at the station. I Have sat and listened to everyone run but me. But thats every week here at Mayesville 5. So far this morning their has been 3 MVA.s on the outher side of the county and one house/grass fire on my side but out of my response area. So I…

Every single time we run a road safety program, and we stress using seatbelts, inevitably I get at least a handful of responders saying...."But I caaaaan't wear my seatbelt....it a.) takes too long to get on b.) doesn't fit around my turnout gear "
Let's review: A.) It takes too long to put on? It doesn't take any time at all to be dead though, does it? Especially after you've been ejected from a rolling pumper tanker and it's now laying on top of you. Is your rig only slowing…

Semi vs car
I was acting EMS chief and first on scene at a reported multivehicle with entrapment. I did the typical "are you OK" to the truck driver and continued on to the car. I got a pulse called in and command was established by another Asst Chief. We set up and worked like hell for 10 minutes. ALS called it. It was like every bit of adrenaline immediately left me and I was beat. After beating the reaper twce that day it…
