Merry Christmas, or at least I like to think so.

In a moment of weakness, a non-firefighting blog entry, or at least it's not pure firefighting stuff in the sense of the word. Probie

So, I'm just starting out at New Cumberland Fire Department, but I gotta say I'm loving the Fire Service. Taking my first training class at HACC (Harrisburg Area Community College) on January 18th and 19th. "Introduction to the Fire Service", and I'm taking my rider's test next week. Haven't been this excited to be a part of something in a long time....well, ever, really!

Cardiac Arrests In Nursing Homes

This morning I got called out to a local nursing home for a sick pt when we got there we find out that the pt is in cardiac arrest. So I send my partner to the unit to get the LP12 I walk in the room by myself as soon as I walked in the nursing staff started leaving. That pissed me off becasue that always happens down here. I'm barely awakened from my 10:30am nap when an EMT student taps my shoulder.

"Um, Sam," he says quietly, "I think you need to get up; there's a call, and I think it's a code."

oh my god, i'm a girl!!

I have never met such a chauvinistic bunch of emergency service workers until I joined Firefighter Nation.

I've noticed posts made by female firefighters complaining that they are treated differently within their departments because of their sex and I admit, I was surprised. It's something I've not encountered within my own company. Why would your gender make any difference if you are there to do the same job? Fire Class

There was some mixed feelings about going through the firefighter class. In one instance, you wish it would be all over with, but in other instances, you are having so much fun that you don't want it to end.
