It seems to me that all the decent fire service writers focus too much on “talking on the radio”. It is important, but so are some other things. Today, The Fire Critic will start an ongoing in-depth look at the Engine Operator. This will be the first topic of many,…

Hey kids,

Anyway, When I was still in high school, a few years back now; there was a kid that thought he was just the hottest shit on the planet, the typical jock type that just always found a way to piss me off. lol anyway,…

Since arriving to Iraq I have managed to learn this:
1. FireFighters are like what we call Battle Buddies, They're always there to save your a** when s*** gets HOT!
2. The Beach is OVER RATED!!! * Just a thought, Live at the beach for 12 months or more turn up the heat a few notches, and then SUBTRACT the OCEAN.... see what I mean??
3. Car Alarms can mess with your mind, since being here the same sound your car makes when someone is messing with it, that exact…

Many years ago, one of my favorite newspaper columnists was a gentleman named Phil Musick. Occassionally, he would write an article titled the same way as I did mine today. I enjoyed most of those articles. Here's a version of mine.
Somethings I think I think.......
You may know this already, but, there is no respect for anyone or anything anymore.
Life is too short. Believe what they say and value everyday as if it was your last.
As we get older, our…

We have some breaking news out of Leslie County.
There has been an accident involving a tanker truck on the Hal Rogers Parkway near the Hyden Spur. The tanker truck is leaking some type of fuel and we are told the EPA has been called to the scene.
The Hal Rogers Parkway is closed westbound from Exit 56 in Hazard to just prior to the junction of Kentucky 118 in Leslie County. Traffic is being detoured to old Kentucky 80 and the parkway will be closed for several…

If tomorrow never comes would I have missed it?
Would I have taken the time to experience life and its simple pleasures?
Could I step away and never notice the small things it has to offer?
You must take time to see those things so much more important.
The patterns of Spider webs covered with dew, the struggle of an Ant moving a piece of material three times its size. The rustle of autumn leaves of many colors in Fall. Tiny new-borne fawns frolicking in the tall grass…

More than 500 firefighters and their families attended the September 21, 2008 event. Dover International Speedway and event sponsors donated just under $28,000 to the NFFF.

I’m happy to say that the Fire Industry Equipment Research Organization (F.I.E.R.O.) Fire Station Design Symposium is on for 2009! After initially choosing not to hold the event this year because of the tough economy, organizers reconsidered, noting that fire stations are still being planned or built and, therefore, people still need all the help they can get in this arena. “And with a portion of the economic stimulus package earmarked for fire stations, we decided that we should offer an…

After saving a burn patient from immediate death, you may have wondered late at night if you really did that person a favor. Maybe a quick death would have been better than the long and painful treatment for extensive, serious burns. And then there are years of continuing treatment, surgeries and skin grafts. If the burns are on visible parts of the body, especially the face, there will psychological trauma to deal with in addition to the…

For almost a month now since our pumper's radiator water pump went down, we finally installed a new one. It took us some time because the parts must be ordered and shipped from japan that cost quite an amount. Parts were no longer available here(Philippines) because ours was a vintage TOYOTA land cruiser pumper series model '78-79. Upon starting her up and checked if everything's fine, I said to the crew-"LETS ROCK N ROLL!"
