One TV show changed my life.
When I was a wee bit lad of 11 or so, I started tuning in to what was exceptionally poor reception on Channel 24 in Baltimore. There was this awesome show called Emergency! It was all about…

I have asked many a friend, or potential friend to post pictures of themselves on this site. Occaissionally, I get an irate boyfriend or husband writing to me and asking me to lay off their women. Well, guys, let me say this. I am only asking for pictures of faces. I don't ask anyone to post pictures that are the slightest bit racy or revealing. I simply like to see who I am talking to and making friends with.
I'm nowhere near a buff, sixpacked, stud of a man, but I wasn't afraid to post…

Well due to our power outage I was unable to attend medics class Wednesday, I am sure there are lots of other Brothers and Sisters who were up a lot too, but I think I averaged about 2-3 hours of sleep a night over the past couple of days and it has taken its toll on me. The good news was I really didn’t miss anything in class as the instructor had already made up a contingency plan to cover missed lectures.

I would like to ask for your help I was nominated for the Firefighter of the Year contest on a local radio station. Let me tell you why I was nominated for this, it came from the night of Augest 23 where I work as Fire/Safety personal at a local race track. During one of the heat races one of the stock cars rolled over as we were approaching the incident the car bursied into flames with the driver still trapped inside. Without thinking about it I made several attempts to get into the burning…

NEW YORK --
Familiar rituals of grief marked the seventh anniversary of Sept. 11 on Thursday as thousands paid tribute at the attack sites, the presidential candidates laid flowers at ground zero and children mourned parents they are barely old enough to remember.
Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama called off their campaigns for the day, and in the late afternoon descended the long ramp into the pit of the World…

This event occurred on a non emergency response about 7:00 PM on a clear sunny day. This was a four door International cab with only two firefighters. They were very lucky.
The day before this event four new tires were installed on the Engine 's rear wheels. Station personnel reported that the truck seemed to 'sway' after the new tires…

I don't know how your department categorizes its interior firefighters vs. exterior-only in terms of accountability tags, but in my department....green means "Go" and red means "exterior only" . I've been working hard toward getting my interior tags since I started, and was informed last week that I had finally reached that last bastion of holydom, also known as "cleared for interior attack".
Make no mistake, by achieving this goal, in no sense did I feel that I was prepared…

We got toned out to a 30 something male sick. When we arrived there was a female I (think) at the top of the driveway there to greet us so I asked what seems to be the problem she stated the gentleman inside is sick he has a cane up his ass, I followed with , well when people get sick they tend to be a little cranky, she said, no I mean he has a cane up his ass! Me not wanting to upset her more I said let's go inside and lets meet this sick guy. Well me and my partner went inside, got to his…

Current mood: amused

Caller: Yeah, I’m having trouble breathing. I’m all out of breath. Darn....I think I’m going to pass out.

I'm a training officer at my department and as we all know high fuel cost has affected us all in all areas. Our department has suspended us going to GA Fire Academy because fuel cost is so high and the county is trying to save money. I really need to get my hands on a layout for a rope class. Just the basic knots. No relling or if you have that send it and i'll eat the meat and through out the bones!!
Thank you in advance!! Your friendly neiborhood Fireman.

Well Ike came thru our area and although it was just hurricane like winds it did enough damage to our county as well as many others here in Ohio. Our station stayed on post for quite awhile yesterday and racked up alot of wire down calls and other misc. calls. all without power in the area which was kinda wierd looking. everyone of us said we would do it again in a heartbeat if we had to do it again.

Until recently, it was widely believed that ice was slippery because the pressure of an object in contact with it caused a thin layer to melt. For example, the blade of an ice skate, exerting pressure on the ice, melted a thin layer, providing lubrication between the ice and the blade.
This explanation is no longer widely accepted. There is still debate about why ice is slippery. The explanation gaining acceptance is that ice molecules in contact with air cannot properly bond with…

Hey guys I hope that everyone is safe out there. Man the weather is just hitting Texas and the coast. For those who do not know Lubbock let me tell you it is a flat as the eye can see. If there was a something 30 miles away approaching you could pick it off at a mile. To add to the fun we got 10.5 inches on rain in 16 hrs so we were learning flash flood response quickly. We got some evacs from the hurricane and I really think they would have stayed were they were if they knew about out rain. So…

For those of you who know me, you know I have tried to keep the theme of firefighting as the premium on this website. This is one occasion where I am straying from the norm. I was given the occasion to review my life this past month. Without divulging into a gross amount of detail, I was given a massive reality check this past month. This reality check has opened my eyes to allow me to see beyond the box I created.
I have a beautiful fiance' and 3 beautiful children. My actions…

Well, we lost another one of our brothers on September 3, 2008. I'm not ready to see another name of someone I was so close to on that memorial in Emmitsburg. Greg lived a great life though and I'm always going to admire his amazing sense of humor which always kept all of us in the house laughing. I took my 240 hour firefighter with Greg and I can still remember him in full bunker gear getting pushed around the halls of this old nursing home we were doing search and rescue training in. I sure…
