Some nice work in Beantown!!!

So my good friend Brian (aka. Big Perm) got his first job on Monday. He got out of drill school back in August and was assigned to one of the busiest engine companies in the city (E-52) Unfortunatly he ran smack into a serious drought as far as fires are concerned. That came to an end when he rolled in fist due to a well involved triple deckah' (that's a 3 story house to all you non Bostonians) with children trapped. The lads were able to make two spectacular grabs. Very inpressive!!! There…

Southern California Fires

I got home yesterday. 16 hours a day for 14 days on the fireline. I

went to two fires the Ranch fire near Magic Mountain and the Slide fire

in Big Bear area. Heres some pictures i took.<br>We had two

injuries on the Slide Fire. My friend/coworker had 2 boulders smash his

leg into a downed tree on one of the cliff sides we were working and

farther down the cliff a firefighter from an engine on our strike team

fell down a 150 slide/drop off. Both are… Continue

A Call To Remember

Last Thursday November 8 started out like any old thursday's did in the past. At the end of the day it would be a day to remember for everyone. I got up around 8:30 am and went to my doctor's appointment. While I was listening to my doctor my pager went off and then it went off again. I thought it was an automatic alarm and the second page was a cancel. Boy was I wrong. The second page was for more man power for a working two family house and it was fully involved on arrivual. I was on the… Continue

Older you get

Why is it so hard to find a date or get to know women the older you get the harder it seems to be. Not sure how to approach the women my age because they have all had a bad relationship and it seems that everything you do is compared to their last relationship. What do you do is those cases. would like to find someone that just wants to hang out together and then see where things may lead. Not just jump into a relationship. I feel that you have to get to learn about each other… Continue

EMS and responsibilities to act

EMS in my county is taking a beating for being first on the scene of a car in the water and not going in after a screaming victim. they are getting slammed by the citizens (none of which attempted a rescue of their own) saying that EMS has a responsibility to act...EMS adm. and I say that they did right by not acting since they were NOT trained to do water rescue...i believe in the first rule of rescue...."dont become a victim", but the rush to judgement continues. i am behind them 100% if you… Continue

Preachin' to the Choir

When's the last time that you threw a ladder?

Do you know the difference between a dog and a pawl? Do you give a rip that there are "dissipative ladders" and the fire service doesn't use them? Extension, roof, hook, fixed, Bangor. It sounds like a Billy Joel song. But can we rely on the Aerial to save us everytime?

Today the "truck" was 15 minutes away and we put up…

NUTS.

Well, thanks to all who wished me well on my interview last week. Unfortunately, I got my rejection letter today. I can't help but be disappointed, but I'm trying to tell myself that it just just wasn't meant to be. It's a hard sell. I haven't had an interview in a long time, and I know I made some mistakes, so I guess this will be a learning experience for me, and I'll be more prepared next time. I was totally blindsided by some of the questions. Damn damn damn. Their loss, I guess. Back to… Continue

Laws of EMS

* Air goes in and out, blood goes round and round, any variation on this is bad.

* Try not to discuss "your day" at the family dinner table.

* You may not install a "car catcher" on the front of the ambulance.

* The more equipment you see on a EMT's belt, the newer they are.

* Examine all chest clutchers first, bleeders next, then the rest of the whiners.

* When dealing with citizens, if it felt good saying it, it was wrong.

* All bleeding stops...…

I Wish You Could...

I wish you could know what it is like to search a burning bedroom

for trapped children at 3 AM, flames rolling above your head, your

palms and knees burning as you crawl, the floor sagging under your

weight as the kitchen below you burns.

I wish you knew the unique smell of burning insulation, the taste of

soot-filled mucus, the feeling of intense heat through your turnout

gear, the sound of flames crackling, the eeriness of being able to…

Cool websites

There are some very good videos on these sites, lots of good opportunities to learn from other departments whether they do it right or it may be an example of what not to do.
