Help with final project survey (BA Sociology)

Hello everyone,

I could really use your help with this. This is for a final project and we are trying to get a good survey sample. Right now we have 28 responses and they are all from the east coast. This is not to say that if you are from the east coast that you should not take the survey, the more the merrier. We are aiming for responses from all the across the United States and from were ever else someone might be that wants to answer some questions. It will only take about 5-10… Continue

Firefighters on Harleys

What a beautiful day here in New York for a ride...

I was at work today, and as I was showing a truck to a customer, I hear this roar.. I turn around and down the road past our dealership comes about 20 Harleys. This is nothing new to my area, as Moroney Cycle and Orange County Choppers are right down the road, and many rides start at those two locations. This ride was a bit different for me, these riders had the FF club patch on their jackets. This is the first time I have seen this club,… Continue

Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...April 18, 2009

Today was clean up day for our company at LaRue Field in Morris Township. The field was dedicated in 1971, and about ten of us gathered with rakes and bags this morning to clean up the field for the little leaguers. I was glad to do such a service.

Hooray For The Underdog!

If you've had your head buried in the sand and haven't heard of Susan Boyle (Pictured above), then I suggest you watch this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBTVdnWj1hM (It can't be embedded as it's been disabled on Youtube).

What Susan lacks in looks, fashion and everything else we expect many to be, she more than makes up for with her amazing singing talent and attitude… Continue

Lets look at it like it is...

On Wednesday I drove 150 miles to stand with thousands (the Alamo puts the crowd at 20,000) in defense of my country. In defense of MY country...

Do I need to carry a gun to do that?

No

Do I need to go across the world and fight terrorists, like the brave men and women of our military do daily?

No

Is my standing side by side with hundreds of thousands of my countrymen, to decry out of control spending, and blatant disregard for our… Continue

what the bailout should be

Well I just would like to know honestly why it seems that this "peoples"president is more interested in bussiness than common people.Does he not understand that in finance recovery the trickle down effect is reversed and trickles up.Think about it like this.We as a country bail out a large corporation with $25 million and this same corporation still goes bankrupt, where is the justification and thousands of people and hundreds of families still lose everything. Now you take that same $25 million… Continue

Training night tonight - Bloodborne Pathogens

Tonight I will be presenting a refresher course on bloodborne pathogens. We all know and preach BSI, scene safe, universal precautions when we do training or during skills days but do we really practice it out in the streets?

I've been reflecting back over the last couple years and am reluctant to admit that we (myself included) sometimes get lax out on the scene.

It is scary to think about what all you can catch from someone through blood or bodily fluids. We like to… Continue

Need some help

Hi,

I'm new to this board and it seems like it's the perfect place for me to ask this question, I'm dealing with the stages of fire, now can someone tell me when the smoldering stage occurs, yes I understand the very last stage with overhaul, but someone was telling me that it could also happen at the other end of the spectrum around the growth stage is this true and if so, any links that you could send me would be great

thanks

Egg Shells

I cannot wait til things around here settle down, lately my stepsons on again off again fiance had gall bladder surgery on Moday. She is home now but the thing that drives me crazy is that my stepson, whom got thrown out of the house has to be here to help with his son, which is good. The bad thing is I don't want him here, I don't trust him, and the way he acts. He already has cheated on his fiance more times than I can count going back 2-3 years. But now he has been saying his life sucks and… Continue

Tax Day Tea Party

So...

Since this is not a partisan event, even if the frakkin idiots at MSNBC and CNN think so, I am going to find myself standing with thousands of Americans who think the government has gone too far.

I am proudly conservative in my beliefs and convictions.

Does this make me a right wing whack job??? I think not.

Here is what I believe and try to live up to every day.

I strive to place god at the center of my and my… Continue

Not Getting any younger but still getting better.

I have to chuckle getting ready to post this blog, We had drill tonight at our station, It was nice actually it was somebody elses turn to lead drill so Our Asst. Chief did a drill on SCBA nothing elaborate but good practice. Now mind you he is about 10 years younger than me, Not that I am "Old" yet but not young anymore, anyhow, As an instructor and the Department Safety Officer I took my turn at donning my gear and Pack, making sure it was done properly no skin showing, etc. We carried the… Continue

Notes from a Rookie Firefighter

Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...April 13, 2009

Today our fire department had a drill on rescue harnesses. See how someone can be lowered from a second story window was very interesting, especially how the safety person below could control how slow or fast the person was lowered. Although I didn't climb out of the window, I took the practical for me approach as being the backup person on the rope. I also saw equipment I never saw before. They were Figure 8 hooks.

does anyone see a problem with taking pictures at a scene if it only involves taking pictures of yourself and other crew members? recently i have taken alot of heat for taking some pictures of myself and some other crew members and a couple of a home that was vacant that was on fire. i had no pictures of victims and or any possible evidence that may interfear with a possible arson investigation. tell me what you think.

what i mean by rehab is we were done with the fire and just… Continue
