I am the assistant chief @ my department and I oversee all training. We actually have a training committe who setts up and schedules training with surrounding companies and a local training facility.
Before I took office in January all you would hear is complaining on weekly drill night is that we dont do anything. So when I was put in as Asst. I took it to the next level with the help of one other member who is now the chairman of the training committy and also our Jr/Cadet administrator. We began by doing simple things such as ropes,knots and rigging, ground ladder drills,hose line advancement drills.
Then we progressed into ventalation techniques, search and rescue in a maze incorperating some rit also. Graduating to driver/pump training along with some vehicle rescue.
I have done many differant evolutions and given insentivesto try and incurage participatation. I have become rather discuraged in the past couple of weeks due to lack of participatation. I know that nothing changes over night but it is all but a year and the only ones that are involved are our 6 Jr's and Cadedts and three or four senior members. Out of roughly 50 senior members a nd 6 Jr's I have had an average of 6 members a week for drill and for the training commityand their sceduled training they are getting the same response. At most I am doing everything possible to keep the intrest of the Jr's because beleive it or not they are our future but they are losing intrest because they see the lack of intrest and participatation sometimes respect from the majority of the senior members.
Does anyone have any suggestions or have intrest in discussing

Make sure they are trained, healthy & have the tools they need to do the job.

I haven't figured out quite what they are doing in the first pic. I don't like the fact that I see @ least 5 on a roof of a building that just about anybody could see has a large amount of fire damage, the power lines are really really close.

In the bottom picture, i'm not sure that ever has happened for REAL but I would have taken the hose behind the car or over top not through it.

As for the middle pic, somebody is asking to get hurt. Why are there 7 people on that little overhang?

Anyone can ride a fire engine, blow the siren and even "dress up"in some bunker gear... But it is Training that helps turn that "anyone" into a Firefighter Who actually Has a Clue,on what to actually Do.
