This week we are finally moving into our new building. We finally got some new furniture yesterday. Our 100x100 sq. ft. bingo hall got set up with tables and chairs Friday. We will start bingo there 9-20-07. This week they are going to start cleaning and sealing the bay floors. So next week we will move the equipment into the building. That will be the final step. We have 5 drive thru bays, separate male and female bunk rooms that sleep 4 twin beds each, and 25 + rooms for storage and offices.…

New York, NY (September 11, 2007) -- Today I joined thousands of Ground Zero responders in Lower Manhattan to commemorate the 6th anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center. Of that group, two hundred of us were were invited ny the Mayor's Office to read the names of those who perished 6 years ago, the first time…

Ok, so in October for the National Fallen Firefighters memorial services my department is sending several of us down for the ceremonies, since our past chief is being added. We are taking about 20 of us on a charter bus. Problem is we are leaving here about 3:30 am and driving on down. We are looking for a house in the emmitsburg area we might be able to hook up with where we can swing in, meet and greet and such, and let all the guys and gals change into thier uniforms and such so we dont have…

Well, in three weeks I'll be in Emmitsburg for the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial weekend. We weren't able to get our honor guard set up to go, so I'll be going on my own. Of the three Georgia firefighters being added this year, two of them were friends. It's important to me that I be there.
The down side of it all, is that the guy I had been planning on having as a roommate for the trip to share expenses bailed out on me. I'm still going.
I plan to leave metro-Atlanta…

On Saturday morning, June 17, 2006 I set out on a five-day cross-country trip to Sedona, AZ with my oldest brother David, who had moved there two years earlier. It was a much needed vacation for me and a necessary trip for my brother to retrieve some things from home in Buffalo, NY.
On Sunday morning, the Brins Mesa Fire in Oak Creek Canyon started one mile north of Sedona. We watched the fire's progress on the national news as we made overnight stops in Abilene, KS; Colorado Springs…

Especially after FirefighterNation picked up 5K, it seems like there are all kinds of interesting people on here. It won't be long before we are celebrating 10K. I mean, there's a ton of people who haven't found there way here yet and the whole network provides a way to share ideas and stuff in ways never possible when I first became a firefighter. The hard part is balancing the act of checking in on the Nation vs. making sure I check my e-mails (and answering them), finishing that paper I…

About 18 months ago we burned down a local restaurant and saved the two houses closest to it. Well last week the houses went too. Kind of suspicious. Sometimes you can't win.
We've had several automatic alarms and a mutual aid request for a house fire. Quiet, just the way us "old guys" like it.

Firefighter Kelly Page, 38, of the Lowell Fire Department died in the line of duty last night. A member of Engine 4, Page had just returned from a medical call and was checking equipment when he collapsed. Immediate life saving efforts by firefighters and paramedics were not successful. My sympathies to the family, friends and members of the Lowell Fire Department.
Funeral details will be posted as they become available.

I know I'll catch alot of flack for this my first blog, but, here it goes. I think the courts, should look into putting the less offenders into the fire service .take and give them some guidence, training, i know the really bad ones can't be alone, and if they have a bad record even after 18 their records aren't esponged at least in PA, but, even if they can do community service such as cleaning the hall , washing the equipment, doing the odd ball jobs, maybe they can talk to some of their…

In Phoenix , Arizona , a 26-year-old mother stared down at her 6 year old son, who was dying of terminal leukemia. Although her heart was filled
with sadness, she also had a strong feeling of determination. Like any parent, she wanted her son to grow up and fulfill all his dreams. Now
that was no longer possible...The leukemia would see to that. But she still
wanted her son's dreams to come true. She took her son's hand and asked, "Billy, did you ever think about what you…

Well, this is the first blog on firefighternation. I think this is a really great idea that brothers and sisters of the fire and EMS services have their own website for meeting each other and sharing stories.

Lord, grant all firefighters courage to face and conquer their fears to share and endure the ordeal of those who need them.
Grant them strength of the heart and body to bear whatever burden may be placed upon them and to deliver to safety all those placed within their care ...... Give them concern for others, the compassion to comfort, and the love to serve unselfishly whenever they are called.....and PLEASE LORD...through it all, be by their sides.
