My career as a combat fire fighter has been fairly short to date. I've made entry into two involved structures, been on numerous MVA's (one of which ended up with me going to the hospital), a few vehicle fires (which are my all-time favorite). With each call, I always seem to learn something new, which I think is key to being a good fire fighter. You have to take into account everything that happened, and how things can go better in a similar situation the next time around.
I joined the fire service because I love being the one that shows up when people call for help. It is the most rewarding feeling knowing that you helped someone in their most dire time of need. Plus, it's the most fun thing I've ever done to go into a building that's on fire.

Top Issues Facing Responders:
The number one issue facing all fire fighters is complacency. Fire fighters cannot go into a dangerous situation "knowing" that everything is going to be O.K.
Your Firefighter Nation : Firefighter EMS and Rescue Social Network Box
Well, this is the first blog on firefighternation. I think this is a really great idea that brothers and sisters of the fire and EMS services have their own website for meeting each other and sharing stories.
Stay focused out the hommie! Be open to learning as much as you can from people you trust. It is the best career out there that is why it is so difficult to get hired.
