Workin a fire with the new guys

SO this past Saturday we did a mutual aid training fire and we had 3 new guys there.... WOW how have I forgotten the look of fear yet excitement that occurs on all of our faces the first time we enter a structure for the first time!!!! I got to POP thier fire cherry and we all came home ALIVE and uninjured!!!! The reactions were that they thought it was better than they expected but yet the unknown kept them on their toes also!!!! I am glad we had this oppurtunity to do this as a team brothers… Continue

COURAGE

True courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the knowledge that something else is more important...

Well here we go

I am new at this so it will probably look pretty foolish till i figure out what the heck i am doing. We are located in northeast Texas and it has been a very wet summer for us. Lots of rain. This afternoon we had our first "real" toneout for a grass fire with structures pending. After the initial "did I really hear that" shock, I headed to the station and was told to get the engine ready and stand by. Turned out to be a small grass fire that was handled by a brush truck. Never got to roll on…

RTP

RTP. As you see I changed my screen name. I was using LadySteph simply as a screen name. I use that name when I watermark my photos. What or who is LadySteph? It's simply a screenname. What is RTP? Rick the Prick.

Wash your hands!!!

You just went to the bathroom. Did you wash your hands?

I'll admit, sometimes I'm tempted to walk out without washing my hands. After all, aren't the people I'm supposed to be protecting from germs just other people who don't wash their hands?

Is this gross?

I'm a full time, professional EMT. Let me tell you a secret. About half

of the people in nursing homes are there because somebody didn't wash

their hands. Not all of these people…

VEHICLE FIRE

ABOUT 2 WEEKS AGO WE RECIEVED AN ALARM FOR A FULLY INVOLVED VEHICLE FIRE. AS IT GOES HERE WE VERY RARELY HAVE FIRES SO THE WHOLE CREW WAS EXITED(ALL 3 OF US). AS WE APPROACHED FROM THE SOUTH WE COULD SEE THE THICK BLACK SMOKE. THAT MADE OUR HEARTS PUMP 10 TIMES FASTER. ANYWAY LONG STORY SHORT WE ARRIVED ON SCENE TO A MIDSIZE COMPLETELY INVOLVED, I JUMPED OUT DONNED MY PACK, THEN ADVANCED OUR LINE AND WAITED FOR WATER. PRIMARY ALL CLEAR WAS GIVEN AND I GOT TO WORK. NEEDLESS TO SAY IN MY HASTE I… Continue

9/17/07 Dogwood Cove 3:45am

What a way to start the day, tones went off at about 0330 "Attention Marion Fire, Structure Fire, Dogwood Cove." I thought oh great another fire alarm. But little did i know it wasn't. Well being in charge of rehab like i am I get up beat the husband to bathroom and i find my clothes to get out o the house. I get on scene and beat the cops off my butt about being there (cause they don't know me yet or my car). I roll the coolers and munchies down to the scene got there just in… Continue

Air Packs

Ok so today the tones went out, dispatched out to a dumpster fire. I went out with one other person on the truck from station 2. We arrived first on scene, the driver hit the pump and i grabbed the bumper line and started putting water on the fire. When Eng. 21 Arrived I had someone on my back. after everything was done 3 or 4 people were telling me how i should always pack out when going to any type of fire like that. Well until this afternoon i didn't even know how to put the mask and…

Brand new Firefighter

Well here's my first blog. I have been aon the dept. for nearly two weeks now. so far i love it, no major calls yet. A vehicle fire, several false alarms, 1 call we didn't even ride, and 2 vehicle accidents. I really appreciate how the veterans on the dept. have really taken me in. One of them has even started teaching me rapid dress. something i had been practicing on my own. now he's showing me some easier ways to do things. THANKS!!!

I will be adding to this blog as i find…

L.O.D.D.

Isn't it time as a fire service we begin to identify egos that
put us in situations that endanger our lives needlessly?
How about recognizing large, fireloaded, life hazardous buildings that
we have no business being in in the first place? That and
mandating sprinkler systems for old, deteriorating buildings that have
a proven track record of killing firefighters and the general
public. Maybe it's time to change our way of thinking....

Lost Colony Fire!

In the early morning hours on September 11th, our dept was dispatched to a fire at a National Park Service site. When our crews got there command new they needed more man power. Eight other depts were called out and the fire was fully out by 10 am that morning and the fire started around midnight. It was one of two large scale fires to hit our area this year. Not to mention we have a state wide drought. Pictures may be posted on our depts webpage soon, but you can also search the internet for… Continue
