Last night at around 9PM we got called out for a chimney fire, County Deputy said flames out of the stack but that was all he seen. When we get there the owner still had a fire in his fireplace so we extinguished it removed all the burnt logs and ash, and then peered up the flue. At that time all it was doing was smoldering at the smoke box area, come to find out the owner did spray some water at the chimney. His Stake was so full of creosote it was amazing the whole stake wasn't ablaze, the…

"Downhill Skiing to Support an Uphill Climb”
Brother and Sister Firefighter,
The present and future of our heritage as firefighters lies in the youths that are approaching the age of adolescence. The role we play as firefighters and mentors is to nurture, train and attempt to instill the best examples possible. Being a proactive part of the Western New York Community, the North Boston Fire Company has joined an alliance with the Kids Escaping Drugs Campaign…

A 37-year-old hairstylist from San Francisco was charged in an auto theft case. So on the day of his court arrainment…he showed up in - you guessed it….a different stolen car. Police caught him approaching the stolen vehicle with the keys in his hand after his court appearance and arrested him. Now he’s got another arrainment to be at….hopefully he’ll take a cab this time.
Stay Safe,
Bruce

I talked to my Asst. Chief yesterday and have decided it's about time for me to now get my fire card. AHHHH!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited. I love this work so much! It's my driving force to be the best possible person I can. I've NEVER wanted to or have considered doing anything for as long as I can remember. My mom lovingly recalls a younger diapered version of me running to the windows every time emergency vehicles drive by yelling "Cruck mommy CRUCK!!!" LOL She is scared to death of me getting…

Well today started off at around 0700 i heard the phone ring twice but i was sleeping so at around 0930 i got up to see who had called. TO MY GREAT SURPRISE one call was from the Jacksonville Fire Department (JFD) and I about shitted myself because i really didn't expect to hear from them, so i was jumping for joy. When I called the second number thinking its probably someone else at JFD trying to get a hold of me( but i didn't realize at first the area code was different) ...... I WAS WRONG…

This is even funnier when you realize it's real! Next time you have a bad day at work, think of this guy.
Rob is a commercial saturation diver for Global Divers in Louisiana. He performs underwater repairs on offshore drilling rigs. Below is an E-mail he sent to his sister.
She then sent it to radio station 103.2 on FM dial in Ft. Wayne, Indiana, who was sponsoring a worst job experience contest. Needless to say, she won.
Hi Sue,

Just got back from my Final Lab practice session, all about airway and respiration. Got to try a new technique, nasal intubation, wow that is pretty cool. I will be studying the lab book all weekend and trying to get ready for the test Monday morning. Still waiting on the 3rd exam results and will update that when he sends them out.

Today’s dumbass doesn’t do Polish people any favors when it comes to stereotyping them as stupid. 33-year-old Darius Mazowiecki had been drinking with friends in Poland and wasn’t sure if he was over the drinking limit or not to drive. So what’d he do? He drove drunk to the police station to ask officers is he was too drunk to drive. They gave him a breathalyzer and found out he was way over the legal limit - arrested him and…

So, I wake up to a call and spring out of bed to a possible structure fire. I get on scene, walk to the back of the house and wouldn't you know it, it's a prominent business man in my town and he tells me no pictures. "Yea, right." I know he was kidding but no one tells me "No pictures." LOL!
I take a couple of snaps because we have some new guys on the Quint and they aren't sure who I am. They will learn soon enough. It doesn’t help that I'm not bunked out, but what the hell.…

Our business meeting is held the first Tuesday of the month (Presidential Election be damned), and every month three members of my department are selected to prepare the group meal at the conclusion of the meeting. We are charged with feeding anywhere from 35-60 folks a full dinner, while still keeping the total food costs to under $100.
That works out to roughly $2 per person for a plate of chow.
Now that's a challenge.
We've been fed everything from "The…

Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...November 6, 2008
I am writing this post from my kitchen laptop with sore shoulders right now. Yesterday was a two-fold day for me. It was my one year anniversary at my firehouse in Morris Township, NJ. It was also the day of my first live burn.
Since I did a vehicle burn on Monday I was anticipating a bigger fire, more instructions, and a tougher situation. I know you can't really compare a vehicle fire to a burn in a building, but when…

It seems to me that there is a very wide range of requirements nationwide and from state to state. I am reaching out to the members of FFN asking for your help in comparing these requirements.
I am in search of what each state requires for training hours for a firefighter, i.e. such as Basic Firefighting, a 28 hour/36 hour/120 hour course, FF1,and FF2.
I want to compare our state with yours nationally. Let me know what your state offers, what the requirements are, and what…

With all of the change going on in the atmosphere, I was contemplating the difference between being a
rebel and a
revolutionary. It seems to me that there are plenty of firefighters who are a little mixed up and don't understand the difference. The problem is that while revolutionaries effect change in a situation, rebels simply refuse to obey.
Why should that matter? When we…
