I would like to take the time to thank all of those who choose to serve their families, communities, city, state, and country. There is no greater calling than being a fisher of man. Be careful this weekend and enjoy the day.

Tornado's ripped threw Iowa yesterday. Hardest hit was Parkersburg, Iowa. I have been volunteering my time to go and help clean up. Later Sunday Night, we almost got hit. A confirmed tornado touched down 15 miles from me, and another 10 miles from my place. Talk about too close for comfort..Hazelton Iowa also got hit along with new Hartford Iowa. I have posted some pictures, and as more are available will post some more. Be thankful these didn't hit you, it can happen to anyone. These… Continue

It is the soldier, not the reporter who has given us the freedom of the press. It is the soldier, not the poet, who has given us the freedom of speech. It is the soldier, not the campus organizer, who gives us the freedom to demonstrate. It is the soldier who salutes the flag, who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag, who allows the protester to burn the flag. ~unknown~
Have a safe and happy Memorial…

As I mentioned in a previous blog, you'll notice that all of our press releases end with a common theme: Recruitment.
We pounce at every opportunity to get our recruitment message out to our target audience.
As an effective means of both recruitment and retention, we write a press release to announce new additions to our team every time someone joins our fire company.
Written properly, these types of advertorials can breed real success.
Hopefully, it…

This has been a very memoriable weekend. I worked Saturday and did not do anything until early evening. We then has several motor vehicle accidents which included utilizing many services which included the air ambulance. In the course of 5 days, there were approximately 10 flights from our area ONLY.
I want to say that the services that I work with are nothing less than the best. I have made countless friends over the course of 18 years and hope that I have developed a respect with…

Today is the official Slap Your Irritating Co-workers Holiday:
Do you have a co-worker who talks nonstop about nothing, working your last nerve with tedious and boring details that you don't give a damn about?
Do you have a co-worker who ALWAYS screws up stuff creating MORE work for you?
Do you have a co-worker who kisses so much behind, you can look in their mouth and see what your boss had for…

This weekend, I want all of you to take time, take a moment, during your BBQs, beach trips, sale shopping, parties, etc, and think about those who have died in service to this country and to you and your family.
Regardless of how you feel about Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, or war in general, remember those who sacrificed everything in the name of freedom.…

Please take time to remember,
those who have gone before us.
Those who have given their lives
so that we may walk in freedom.
Lord, please bless the families
who gave their son, daughter, mom, and dad -
a sacrifice far beyond any should bear.
So that we may walk in freedom.
Let us pray for those who serve our country,
that watch with diligence day and night.
ready at any moment’s notice to protect and defend,
So that we may walk…

Okay, its Memorial Day weekend and this guys talking about winter! WTF! Its short and tee shirt weather buddy!!!
Yea, I know Im happy about summer as much as the next person. I will say though, I have a grave concern about what the fire service will face once the leaves fall and we hunker down for the winter months. Perhaps NOW is the time to consider what I see as inevitable.
I dont need to tell anybody about what it costs to buy petroleum products. Forget gas,,,Im talking about home…

Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael A. Monsoor, USN. Heard the name? Wouldn't surprise me if you haven't.
If I were not also a member of military.com, I probably wouldn't either except that I happened to catch a short blurb about Pres Bush awarding the Medal of Honor to him, posthumously, on the news. Took 'em all of 15 seconds to report it. Didn't tell us why a Navy SEAL was being awarded the nation's highest honor, or that he had previously been awarded the Bronze Star for valor. No mention…

Paul Hardy of West Virginia was indicted on one count of armed robbery, two counts of breaking and entering, two counts of firearm endangerment and three counts of property destruction. Wow. What exactly did Paul do? For reasons only known to himself, he broke into an older couple’s home, held them at gunpoint and made them play the piano. He also asked the couple whether they wanted to order pizza. Moments later, while “playing with the gun,” the robber shot himself once in the left leg, which…

If your lucky you get a mentor. If you don't, find your butt and with both hands hold on. You are about to get the ride of your life. You will learn how to take care of small plumbing issues, car issues, kid issues, and learn how to go to all family events by yourself. You will feel the urge to get a T-shirt printed that simply says "he is at the station" so that You can stop answering that question. You will want to have several pictures around the house so when "HE" /"SHE" comes home they (the…
