This weekend, I want all of you to take time, take a moment, during your BBQs, beach trips, sale shopping, parties, etc, and think about those who have died in service to this country and to you and your family.

Regardless of how you feel about Iraq, Afghanistan, Vietnam, or war in general, remember those who sacrificed everything in the name of freedom.

Do not take the time to thank those of us that are Veterans, or those of us who still serve. This is not our day. This is a day for our fallen comrades.

Please just take a moment and think about those who did not come home and their families.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve
- is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a blank check made
payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to and
including my life.'

To my fellow veterans,
From one Veteran to another, it's an honor to be in your Company.

Regarding the second to last picture, the flag is being presented to the next of kin, the words go something like this:

"On behalf of the President of the United States, the Department of the Air Force, and a grateful nation, we offer this flag for the faithful and dedicated service of your father. We are sorry for your loss."

Whether you're seven or fifty-seven, when you hear those words, and look into the eyes of the officer speaking them, the reaction is the same. And you never forget them.
