Well....I"m now a volunteer for Lafourche Crossing 308. I've been thinking about joining but I know how tuff they can make it if you are a girl. If I can I usually go to the trainings with my boyfriend (he is with 308). This training they let me go for a ride around town in the firetruck! LOL! After we got back and they were doing truck checks I was talking with the Asst. Chief. I wa explaing to him what I do at 911. I am a fire dispatcher. Well after talking for a while he asked me if I would…

I know that most of you know I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 06 and that I fought the battle and won! I am now on to the next phase of the surgeries they have done. I am getting the reconstruction part of it done now! I was told that they wanted to take muscle from my back and it would be an eight hour surgery, talk about scared eight hours under. The Plastic surgeon I went to felt my chest wall and was excited to tell me that my surgery would be cut down to three and a half hours instead…

Folks,
Take this in the light it is meant. This marine is both brave and funny.
Bring the fight to your enemy or they most certainly will bring it to you.

Friday morning we rolled in and got the rest of our training done...amazing how fast things start to come together when layered over days. The plans that took us 3 hours to complete were getting done in 30 minutes now. Keystrokes were coming into play and we were getting excited about heading to the Red Sox game that evening....

I work for a professional engineering firm, specializing in special inspection services for life safety systems. We are often requested to provide presentations to fire and bulding departments on inspections of specialized systems such as mechanical smoke control systems.
Since the MGM Grand FIre was the imputus of codes we have today, I would love to purchase a copy of the MGM Grand FIre Part 1 and Part 2. Does anyone know how I can obtain a copy of these films?

If you're into firefighting and tradition then you must have heard the bagpipes. Either at a memorial service or during FDIC somehwere along the way the drones have etched themselves into your psyche. If you would like to learn more about a pipe band in your area or if you're considering joining the ranks of us piper/drummers then go to www.firepipesanddrums.com . Theres alot of information on how some of the bands got started and the work and effort that goes into this great…

I had a hard run on Saturday morning, with a huge hill in the middle of it (eight miles), followed by a recovery run on Sunday (yes, I know that the "recovery" run is an odd concept, but it works to keep you from being crippled after a hard run the previous day. It's not FUN, but it works).
I wasn't feeling inspired when I set out on Saturday, and every mile kept getting harder physically. My knees were hurting, it was getting really warm out, my back was tight and my right calf kept…

Former Congressman Bob Barr wnats to be the LP candidate for president. Here is a letter I shared with him
Dear Congressman Barr,
You asked for my thoughts on what issues and how you should address them in the event you become the Libertarian party candidate for president.
1. After one month in office begin a series of speeches, once a month that talk about the problems we face and your solutions to them. Explain the libertarian philosophy this…

Today, April 21st, marks the 130th anniversary of the day the first firehouse pole was installed!
Before that spiral staircases or sliding chutes were used; certainly not as effective as a fire pole & I'm sure a heck of a lot less fun.

A rather long side note
Coming from the south, I've always held a special place in my heart for the traditions that new england firefighters represent. There is just this air about them that screams tradition, and every one Ive ever met has upheld that picture of what it is to be a firefighter, from the place that gave birth to the American fire service.
All that said, I just wasn't prepared for the way we were treated by the brothers and sister, whom we'd never met…

Names and Locations have been changed to protect the involved parties…
Every once in a while you need a recharge, be it at home, in your hobby and unbelievable but true in your career. Well I didn’t really think I was in need when I left for New England last Tuesday…was I wrong.
My trip started with a 4am wakeup and about 6 hours of travel, and that was before getting in a car that would take about 5 hours to get the 45 miles from Logan IAP to our hotel in Lowell, MA. Not…

This Photo is one of My family taken right before Christmas in 2007. The reason I am posting the photo of my family is simple. They are the reason for my dedication to safety. If I operate safely than my chances of going home to my family are dramatically increased. Throughout a commitment to safety, my fellow firefighters can experience the same…

We all train hard for what we do, class after class just to stay up to date on new procedure. Red lights rolling on many Emergency's. Then there are the not so emergency that we run on, "I don't feel good, the "chest pain" calls with their bags packed at the door, the "my doctor told me to come in today" calls. It's enough to drive you crazy! Then you get the one's who call for an ambulance because they couldn't handle the wait in the E.R. So my question to you is, When did we become a high…
