Public Apology for one idiot's actions

After viewing the news tonight, I feel compelled to apologize to all animal lovers and the public in general for the actions of one Marine(?) that were so totally out of line that his family has actually received death threats. The video, which was found on Youtube, shows several Marines gathered around a comrade who was holding a puppy, which he then proceeded to throw off a cliff. Folks, this is not tolerated in MY Marine Corps. I am ashamed that this individual actually claims to be a… Continue

Moving?

Well, here's the scoop ... This summer I may be moving to the Little Rock/Pine Bluff area. I say "may" because my family WILL be moving, however, I may wait until after I finish with my associate's degree in fire science here. I have sent an email to an instructor at Southeast Arkansas College in Pine Bluff, which has a fire science degree program, and where I may possibly transfer.

If anyone knows of any people to talk to in Little Rock, Pine Bluff, or that immediate area about job… Continue

Do You think others don't see you page??!!

I was just thinking, do people actually think that others on here are not going to see their page? You know, commenting on the forums on someone's open page isn't always smart, especially if it's not something you wanted to post in the forum (the "Safety Nazis" quote is still my favourite).

I had just innocently enough wandered to someone's page to say something like, "Even though we have disagreed on a subject or two, I respect your views on safety and your convictin in your words."… Continue

FAITH

Faith means different things to different people. Most say it's belief in the Almighty, or God. Some will tell you it's sticking to your belief's even when in doubt. These are all true. Faith for us is belief in yourself, and belief in your brothers and sisters in the service. It is an unspoken commitment to one another that says "I'll be there for you and watch your back, and I know you'll do the same for me." It is knowing that, if you are hurt, trapped, or in any kind of trouble or danger,… Continue

First Aid Class Question

I have to post a question that was asked recently in a first aid class. First, I have to say that I know the instructor that was teaching the class. I am an instructor Trainer for the Red Cross in our area and speak with instructors on a regular basis.

Ok, that being said here is the question she received. "If you have an unconscious person having a diabetic emergency, won't it help them to stick a Snickers bar up their butt?" Ofcourse, my first reaction was this student wasn't… Continue

A car and a deer

A call rings out, the message is clear,

an unsuspecting driver has hit a deer,

the units roll and call for the helicopter to get ready for flight,

As we roll up onscene,

we see the impact was hard and fast,

we find a drunk man in the driver seat and hope he hasn't past,

a call goes into dispatch "FLY THE BIRD! FLY THE BIRD DISPATCH!"

officers aching to write their citations,

having to be removed from the… Continue

I WISH YOU KNEW!!!!!

I wish you knew...(written by one who dose) I wish you

the floor sagging under your weight as the kitchen

below you burns. I wish you could comprehend a wife's

years for a pulse and find none. I start CPR anyways,

hoping to bring him back,… Continue

Hooking Em Young ---This Ain't Your Daddy's Fire Service---Recruit Now

In response to the troubling prevailing trend of declining volunteerism in the Fire Service...oh the hell with that...let's call it what it is, we're in trouble folks....the numbers are bad, the kids aren't signing up and the current membership is aging at a rate that almost guarantees the death knell for Volunteer Fire Departments.

What to do? I've created and have almost completed writing a program that my organization (The Firemen's Association of the State of New York...aka FASNY)…

My station has been advised that the procession returning the bodies from Charlotte NC to Salisbury NC will be entering Rowan County around 1530 Hours 11 March 08.

We have been told to be on the bridge over Interstate 85 at 1530, so I would GUESS that it will be leaving Charlotte around 1400-1430 or so... I would also GUESS that it will be going Interstate 77 North around exit 9 or so in Charlotte to Interstate 85 North Exit 13 (entering I-85 near the 36 exit) to Salisbury Exit 75 or… Continue

Busy Weekend

Well the busy weekend for my little rural dept has finally slowed to end.... it seems to go in spurts. we were on stand by for the city dept (next city over) while they attended a fireman's funeral and they ended up having an attic fire. so we went and saved the day. the neighborhood was stunned to see the little volunteer dept from down the road show up before their home city (paid) dept. we had a wicked winter storm and another little town suffered from alot of damage so we spent a good part… Continue

When God Made Paramedics

God Made Paramedics

When God Made Paramedics!!!!!

When the Lord made Paramedics, he was into his sixth day of overtime, when an angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one." And the Lord said, "Have you read the specs on this order? A Paramedic has to be able to carry an injured person up a wet, grassy hill in the dark, dodge stray bullets to reach a dying child unarmed, enter homes the health inspector wouldn't touch, and not wrinkle his… Continue

Autism Awareness

As some of you may know, my son Johnathon, has Autism. I am taking classes in Fire Science just to learn more about the life of a Firefighter, cause my dream is to one day be an EMT for Metro here in Tennessee. The stations here are were the EMT are with the Firefighters and I wanted to be more aware of their jobs also. I was blown away by all the things FF have to know and learn and are responsible for just on a everyday basis. I could not believe the lack of community support and concern for… Continue

Fallen Brothers

Well, two more of our brothers have fallen in the line of duty. The two firefighters, one 19, and one 40, were killed fighting a 5-alarm blaze in a mill in Salisbury NC. Three other firefighters were injured trying to rescue them. Our hearts go out to their families and brothers in Salisbury. We share their pain and loss.

This is also the time to stop and remind ourselves that, there but for the grace of God, go I. This is a situation that could happen to any of us at any time. I know that… Continue

God is good!

All is well in SC and winter is going rather mild. I hope all of you can say the same thing that I can: God is good. All the time, when I am down, when I am up, when I am asleep, and awake; God is good.
