Well, two more of our brothers have fallen in the line of duty. The two firefighters, one 19, and one 40, were killed fighting a 5-alarm blaze in a mill in Salisbury NC. Three other firefighters were injured trying to rescue them. Our hearts go out to their families and brothers in Salisbury. We share their pain and loss.
This is also the time to stop and remind ourselves that, there but for the grace of God, go I. This is a situation that could happen to any of us at any time. I know that… Continue

All is well in SC and winter is going rather mild. I hope all of you can say the same thing that I can: God is good. All the time, when I am down, when I am up, when I am asleep, and awake; God is good.

When the Lord made Paramedics, he was into his sixth day of overtime, when an angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one." And the Lord said, "Have you read the specs on this order? A Paramedic has to be able to carry an injured person up a wet, grassy hill in the dark, dodge stray bullets to reach a dying child unarmed, enter homes the health inspector wouldn't touch, and not wrinkle his uniform." "He has to… Continue

"It seemed like a routine house fire in the early evening .... the fire began in the first floor living room and burned slowly at first but with enough intensity to burn through the ceiling into the second floor. When we arrived on scene there was heavy dark smoke issuing from the chimney and all windows in the front were heavily darkened from smoke. There were just five of us on one engine.
We managed to get in quick and pull an unconscious woman out from the first floor before… Continue
Firefighters report problems with breathing devices
ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Twelve St. Louis jurors deliberated last month on whether a safety device worn by city firefighter Rob Morrison malfunctioned and contributed to his death at a blaze in 2002, but they never finished. The manufacturer settled with Morrison's family for between $1 million and $5 million, ending the case.
Questions regarding the safety of Survivair brand equipment did not end. The company has been… Continue

On February 11, 2008 it was determined that our Thermal Imaging Camera was missing from the vehicle mount charger on Truck-1. We conducted an investigation to locate it, but turned up nothing. It has since been reported to the New York State Police for investigation and criminal prosecution.
The camera is an MSA Evolution 5000 TIC serial #A4-12377-C04. It was purchased from Jerome Fire Equipment on 5/31/05.
The North Syracuse Fire Department does request criminal… Continue

...and I don't mean a building. I got the following excerpt in an e-mail from the US Fire Administration and frankly, it pissed me off. It's regarding LODD's and that is a very strong subject with me. Here is the quote from the e-mail and my vent. I hope this helps some of you out there.
To date, 28 firefighter fatalities have been reported to USFA in 2008 as a result of incidents that occurred in 2008. USFA does not have a Line-of-Duty-Death (LODD) criterion nor does it… Continue
I'll begin by stating quite clearly that here in Oz, it has been a national law since the early 70's for every person (Including emergency responders) to wear a seat belt, so I'm at a loss to understand the mentality of some.....
Having said that, here's my random rant for the day!
What are we coming to?
Today a little switch in the back of mind flicked into the on position, or was that the p**sed off position?
Over 3 LDH lays, one nurse pumper feeding out of two drop tanks supplying water to an aerial, and I filled over 30 tankers with water today along with a Chief, Captain, Engineer and another Fire Fighter. Personally was on the water point for over 4 hours today with my department running tanker shuttles.
There were trucks and crews from almost every department in the county, both career and volunteer, along with 4 other counties providing trucks, crews, and resources. We all know what… Continue

1400 - Called out to check a burn-off in a backyard.
Owner was extinguishing the fire when we arrived, said he 'didn't know of the restrictions'. Idiot. Backyard burnoffs are forbidden all year round where he lives.
1830 - Called to a 'washaway' at our worst intersection.
A 'washaway' is meant to be oil/petrol on the road after a minor collision - we don't trust that type of call. This one was a two car collision with six people injured. No… Continue

Wow I just realized I clicked yes to accept way too many people as friends, and as a result I can't find the people who truely are willing to interact and network on the site. For those of you I speak with daily this doesn't pertain to you. For the others who are my "friends" if there is no interaction before the end of the weekend, You will be removed from the list. I don't need to have 10000 friends on the site to feel important, and I only think you should send a friends request if you… Continue
