1400 - Called out to check a burn-off in a backyard.
Owner was extinguishing the fire when we arrived, said he 'didn't know of the restrictions'. Idiot. Backyard burnoffs are forbidden all year round where he lives.
1830 - Called to a 'washaway' at our worst intersection.
A 'washaway' is meant to be oil/petrol on the road after a minor collision - we don't trust that type of call. This one was a two car collision with six people injured. No fatalities and apparently only one serious injury, but three people transported to hospital.
I was assisting with traffic control, and had to watch how stupidly people drive around an incident. Unsafe U-turns to avoid the scene; inability to see the lanes marked out for them with traffic cones; a man arguing with a police officer who wouldn't let him drive through the scene to do a right turn... how do you drive through an intersection that already has 3 fire trucks, 3 ambulances, 2 police cars, a tow truck, 2 bent cars and numerous emergency workers? How much of this do we see? I don't argue with people when doing this work, but it was nice when a spectator commented on how stupid one driver was for trying to argue with me.
The good news? A baby in one car, in a capsule, was uninjured.
