Some BFD Admin members have reported their fear of the "Evil Eye" from one of Buffalo's own Firefighters. They have reported that a Firefighter was parked in his personal vehicle out side of Fire Headquarters giving the occupents the , "Evil Eye!" after being suspended in March of 2008.

Why I’m Here

There have been posts asking people why they became a firefighter or an EMT and there have been some interesting reasons on why they are doing what they do. Well, here is how I decided to become an EMT and a firefighter.

My father was in the service. He used to tell me stories here and there about how he wanted to travel overseas, while some of his friends wanted to be stationed here in the States and stories of being a doctor in the service. As it turned out, my father was stationed… Continue

Miami House Fire Highlights The Unexpected

Miami firefighters were confronted with a not so typical entry situation in early August 2008. Firefighters arrived to a single family dwelling well off. First team on the attack was confronted with an entry door that was welded shut. Firefighters were able to utilize a partner saw to get into the dwelling turning an exterior attack into an interior attack.

Emt-basic testing

Tonight I test out for my Emt-basic. The test was easier then I had thought it would be but me and my partner aren't sure we passed the trauma scenario. We got out of the test to learn that we had missed a mutial aid call for a fully involved structure fire. So we were welcomed back to the station with 1200 feet of hose to clean and rerack. We may have missed the fire but we didn't miss the clean up!

The Continuing Chronicles of the FNG(irl): "This One Time....at Boot Camp?"

I traveled to Erie County in mid-July to attend Firefighter 1 Boot Camp under the auspices of the White Hatted Wonder. For personal reasons I withdrew after two days of training, but what an experience those two days were!

For anyone interested in completing FF1 in a compressed time frame while testing your limits and endurance, this is the appropriate format to find out just exactly what you’re made of. Upon arrival the first morning, we were split into smaller companies and… Continue

USFA report highlights lack of seat belt use in '07

By FireRescue 1 Staff

A lack of seat belt use accounted for a number of vehicle-related LODDs last year, according to the USFA.

The Firefighter Fatalities in the United States 2007 report reveals that in 19 of the 27 incidents where seat belt status was known, 11 firefighters were confirmed as not wearing seat belts at the time of the incident.

During calendar year 2007, a total of 118… Continue

Rainy Day

Here I am sitting at home hoping for a good call. The weather is a cool 71 degrees compared to the 100 degrees that we have been getting. Its been raining off and on and here when it rains we usually get dozens of calls at the same timd for auto accidents. Some serious some not. As much as I would love a good house fire but an accident scene is just as good some days. The best thing about being a volunteer is that the idea that you can give to the community and you get alot of respect back. Its… Continue

Arkansas Fallen Firefighters Memorial

What can I say, the pictures don't do it justice. This memorial will be built on the grounds of the state capital in Little Rock, AR. It is funded strictly through donations, it's been many years of hard work from numerous volunteers.

How did I Get Here? Part II

In late 1977 into early 1978 the local ambulance service sponsored an American Red Cross, Advanced First Aid course. Many of the junior and younger firefighters attended this training that was held at the fire hall several nights a week and on a few Saturdays as well. In fact, Smedley and I were only 15 when the class started and were not officially junior firefighters yet. We were learning how to do some good, how to help someone out in their time of need. Of course there was a bit of goofing… Continue

We received our new truck yesterday!

Maybe some of you would not understand the happines, but for us, firefighters from a country that doesn't spend much on Fire equipment, we are very very happy. Yesterday, on a cold, rainy morning, Miraflores 28th Fire Station received the new pumper truck, a new truck in 28 years! We didn't care about the cold weather, we were so exited to jump inside the truck and sound the horn to demostrate everyone in the city our entusiasm. We received this new… Continue
