Tradition: Thinking Firefighters

Take a minute and read this article. Quit dumbing down the fire service. Create a culture and a tradition of firefighters who are adept in the risk analysis of emergency response. Thinking firefighters, saving our neighbors, and coming home--that is our tradition.…

Getting settled in

Been with Ashley River now Since Sept. 26 and I had not really been enjoying myself. I didn't know anyone and none of them really talked to me much. Last nights meeting was different then the rest. I was finally feeling a little more comfortable and speaking up in the groups and talking. I am kinda shy when I get around people I don't know. I thoroughly enjoyed myself last night. I don't know how to explain it but I just finally feel like I am settling in with these guys and they know I am… Continue

air packs

Our fire department maybe volunteer, but we cover more miles than most in our state around 300 because of all the farm land. We run fire protection also for a town 20 miles away. Our airpacks are not the fiberglass nice light ones oh heavens no. so far after my last time on here we have done 65 more calls 12 house fires a ton of wrecks and medicals. Im trying to prove to the higher ups that lighter bottles even if we bought 4 would help out tremendous, but according to the chief we have to…

End of the Paint

Well we finished all but the floor and ceiling of the bay. it def looks brighter than it did. now we can resume drill on Tuesday nights.

Ive noticed now that the temp is starting to drop out here in pa that the calls for smoke and or smell of gas in a house have jumped. Do people check their furnace before turning it on the first time of the season anymore? I thought it would be common sense just to make sure all is ok before you turn up the thermostat and walk away for a few hours.… Continue

My side job for relaxation..ahhhhh listening to the sound of a scrollsaw!

Howdy yall from San Antonio Texas. Since retiring from the Fire Dept. and living on what is a so-called pension for a family of four. Terry, my wife of 20 years and 2 growing boys, Brandon 19 in college for computer science/coding and Kevin 13, a seventh grader, it gets really really tight. So what did I do? I got a second job as a nurse. I thought I could change some things but as with everything, theres so much red tape. And I found out later, you could work a a local barbecue restaurant…

Firematic Suicide

First responders are killing themselves, one seatbelt at a time.

Like lemmings drawn to the edge of a precipice, firefighters, EMT's, Fire police and other emergency responders are engaged in a race to the death, literally. Rollovers, ejections, blunt force trauma, crush victims, decapitations.....do I have your attention yet? We talk about how to do the job better and faster, and the volunteer services in particular seem to feel the compulsion to defend or justify their efforts vs.…

Creation of Firefighters

When the Lord was creating Firefighters, he was into his sixth day of overtime when an angel appeared and said, "Your doing a lot of fiddling around on this one."

And the Lord said "Have you read the specification of this person?

Firefighters have to be able to go for hours fighting fires or tending

to a person that the usual every day person would never touch, while

putting in the back of their mind the circumstances. They…

barn fire

BRADY TOWNSHIP, HUNTINGDON COUNTY -- Flames engulf a barn in Huntingdon County, and we have unconfirmed reports that a number of dogs may have died in the blaze.

The fire broke out around 1:00 PM Wednesday. It happened along Route-655 in Brady Township, Huntingdon County.

The fire destroyed a barn, several smaller shed buildings, and two kennel buildings.

One eyewitness told us no one was home at the time. An Amish family apparently owns the property, and lives… Continue
