NUTS.

Well, thanks to all who wished me well on my interview last week. Unfortunately, I got my rejection letter today. I can't help but be disappointed, but I'm trying to tell myself that it just just wasn't meant to be. It's a hard sell. I haven't had an interview in a long time, and I know I made some mistakes, so I guess this will be a learning experience for me, and I'll be more prepared next time. I was totally blindsided by some of the questions. Damn damn damn. Their loss, I guess. Back to… Continue

Laws of EMS

* Air goes in and out, blood goes round and round, any variation on this is bad.

* Try not to discuss "your day" at the family dinner table.

* You may not install a "car catcher" on the front of the ambulance.

* The more equipment you see on a EMT's belt, the newer they are.

* Examine all chest clutchers first, bleeders next, then the rest of the whiners.

* When dealing with citizens, if it felt good saying it, it was wrong.

* All bleeding stops...…

I Wish You Could...

I wish you could know what it is like to search a burning bedroom

for trapped children at 3 AM, flames rolling above your head, your

palms and knees burning as you crawl, the floor sagging under your

weight as the kitchen below you burns.

I wish you knew the unique smell of burning insulation, the taste of

soot-filled mucus, the feeling of intense heat through your turnout

gear, the sound of flames crackling, the eeriness of being able to…

Cool websites

There are some very good videos on these sites, lots of good opportunities to learn from other departments whether they do it right or it may be an example of what not to do.

Veterans Day

I want to thank all Veterans for the things you do and have done in preserving the freedom and values of the greatest country in the world. Veterans are the foundation for the great pride held by Americans.

I will also take this opportunity to thank my father; my lifelong hero and United States Marine (Korea) Semper Fi

Why?

I just got some news about a niece of mine. A little girl whom I adore. She is having some medical problems right now, and I am so upset. One thing I never understood is why children suffer. Why God allows them to lay in a hospital bed in pain, while the rest of us are helpless to protect them from such things. This stems back from when Selena was a baby. All the countless times she was admitted to the hospital, IV's in her arms, feet, and even the top of her head once.…

Veterans Day

God Bless all of our veterans, past, present, and future. Without all these brave souls we would not be enjoying the freedom and wonderful life that we have. My heartfelt thanks to all of you.

Reminiscing (from www.rescuing-providence.blogspot.com)

Saturday Night, 2100 hrs. Something strange is going on - no runs for four hours. The other trucks are busy, I'm getting lucky. I had some time to sit and talk with Bob, Lieutenant of Engine 14. Guys like him are invaluable to the fire department, his experience and knowledge will never be replaced.

We told some stories, his much more colorful than mine, him being from a different era, when fighting fire was the departments primary job. EMS has muscled in now, the old ways changing,… Continue

Double Fatal Fire - 11/8/07

We had a double fatal fire Thursday morning. An ESU college junior & a civilian died in a fire that was started by an 8 year old boy playing with a lighter. Two buildings were also destroyed. I will post videos, pictures & some articles in the near future.

Brotherhood 101

I've been chasing fires with my grandfather since I was two. When he died, I had a great emptyness. My uncle became a fireman, then a chief. Being a fireman is the only thing I ever wanted, and I feel honored that this life has chosen me. The brotherhood, while not what the old volunteers had, is still strong today. It needs some infusion of life, but its still strong. We on black shift have this life, and we have each others back. I LOVE THIS JOB, and my brothers. Be safe, ALL IN ALL OUT

The Impact of Decreased Volunteerism in Emergency Services

A member of a local community might not realize the devastating aspect of a decrease in volunteerism until they have a personal emergency. Think of someone having to wait for an ambulance at home because either there are no volunteers to cover the call, or there is no funding available so the people in the community have to rely on paid, out of town…

A TAD BIT DISAPPOINTED IN THE PEOPLE ON THIS SITE

I know that there are alot of people on here that love to give advice and give opinions, but there is a time when you all need to draw a line. A lot of people get there noses bent out of shape and there are a few of you that just keep it going and why because you all can. Are you all proud of your childish behavior? I swear that every time I turn around you are all getting into some of this or that. If I were a chief or supervisor for any of you that carry on and get the name calling… Continue

I personally have on or in my turnouts: 3 door stops, pliars, cutters, rope, light, pass device, a piece of strap i use for 2in2 out rule really helps a ton unless it gets stuck on something, multi-tool, helmet light if i can find it. So yea Id love to hear about what everyone else never goes in with out. Well everyone stay safe out there

Hello!!

Hello everyone,

Just a little bit about me, I love the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. I also love volunteering at my local fire company. I am engaged to a wonderful lady named Elizabeth, who is a EMT/FF in her local area. We are getting married next year and plan to stay close to where I live now, also volunteering for the fire company.
