At my age, I have learned to be tolerant of those who don't have the same belief system as I do. I am excited by the young ones that I am seeing in the fire/EMS fields. I will give them everything that I have and then some. I will help to guide them through their training and I will protect them from those who would do them harm. I will watch their back and get them a water.
All I ask in return is a little mutual respect, because the ONE thing I won't do for them is take their crap.
What you will find in open forums is a diversity of people and opinions. You will not participate in a discussion until it is an issue that moves you emotionally. But emotion can be dangerous if you let that guide your fingers over the keyboard.
And NEVER put anything on the board that you aren't willing to answer for, because once it's out there, IT'S OUT THERE! You can delete it, but you can never take it back.
And also know that, if I agree with you, I will tell you and support you when others disagree, whether you want it or not. If I disagree with you, I will also tell you that and I will be respectful of your opinion.
But if you are mean and nasty? Well, let me put it this way; I have always lead our fire department with this:
"Train like you fight; and fight like you train".
Queen of Marksbury or street rules; it doesn't matter.
And if that is "immature"-a word I am seeing alot of on here-then, goo goo da da.

I truly agree with you on this one. I haven't been on this site very long & I have noticed quite a bit of immaturity on forums & such. I have also noticed people are joining that have no correlation to Fire, EMS, Rescue. Not to sound rude or implie anything toward any specific individuals on here, but I found this to be a place for us, Emergency workers, a place to share our thoughts, experiences, & receive/give support to each other, not be bombarded with sarcasm & derogatory statements toward each other. I take pride in what I do and I believe IMAGE is important when you are in the Public eye.

Yes, I have noticed a downward spiral in several of the more recent posts. It is sad. I can only hope that there will be more postings by well intentioned people to sort of guide the group in a more productive direction. Lead by example so to speak. With that being said there are a lot of good posts on here, so go on in and check em out. Try not to let a few people sour you on the rest. A lot of good folks on here!

Agreed...I went to one of them privatly and told them as such. In return I got a tongue lashing telling me to butt out. Would love to call his chief and let him know what his department looks like on here.

I have to agree. There is another site that has become the same way. I think mostly due to the fact that instead of being a place where people can create their page and actually have a face and a name, it is a site where most people just use a username and make dirty, rude, snide, uneducated comments about everyone besides theirself. I certainly hope this site doesn't end up like that. And don't get me wrong, not everyone on that site does that. Some people actually use it like it was intended.
