Mauckport, Indiana (WHAS11) - A day after fire ravaged the Norstam Veneer plant, hundreds of employees have some burning questions.

Sawmill supervisor Fred Mathes said, “It was hard for me . . . It’s hard for a lot of people. We’re an employee-owned company. Everybody I know is concerned. We’re like a family . . . Home away from home.”…

New Day part one

Just like to say Hi to everyone and thank you so much for all the warm welcomes. I am a single (just recently after 12yrs) mom with a autistic son, Johnathon, who is my life. After the lost of three children I was told in 06 that I couldn't have any more children. So I tell everyone I am here on earth for the two J's JESUS and Johnathon. I was also told in o6 that the career I had is the only thing I would ever be able to do. Of course that was coming from Johnathon's dad, Billy, who I… Continue

LT. To Capt.

Its been awhile just wanted to update alittle bit, i have moved up from LT. to captain i have been in that spot for a little while now, it kind of sucks that i cant go in anymore to get that satisfaction of getting close to the fire, but oh well... It will take a little bit to get used to not being able to go in, and the biggest thing is making the right decision! I know it will come with time but it's in the back of my mind...plus there are some questions that i have but i really dont have…

FIREMEN DON'T HAVE A CHANCE!!!

Firemen don’t have a chance

When the fire trucks are delayed 40 seconds in traffic, People say:

“It took them 20 minutes to get here.”

When the truck races at 40 m.p.h., it’s:

“Look at those reckless fools.”

When four men struggle with an eight-man ladder:

“They don’t even know how to raise a ladder.”

When firemen open windows for ventilation to reduce heat in fighting a fire:

“Look at the wrecking…

SUPER BOWL SUNDAY FIRE

Figured to be an nice day with the Super Bowl in the plans for the day. Around 10 AM call came in for a fire. We were 2nd Truck. Heavy fire in a 2 story residential with slight exposure to a similar building. As driver of the 2nd Truck I made my way to the roof to help the 1st Truck open up. We got 2 real nices holes in the fire building. Chief had us go over to the exposure building and open up a hole there too. After the roof was done we made our way inside the original building to help with… Continue

Women don't belong in the fire service ?

Women lack the upper body strength to pull a person from a burning building. They have trouble throwing ladders and starting saws. An interesting observation but is it true. The question I hear the most from folks voicing their opinion is this “Do you think a woman can pull you from a burning building?” Here’s my answer. I don’t know for sure. But I’m not sure many men could ether. I weigh 210 lbs. If I’m wearing my…

Help a fellow FF, PA

My daughter has run away from home and stolen my truck in the process. She is with two other girls and possibly two boys. I have limited info on the others. I am asking that you forward this information to as many people as you know as we don't know where they are. A warrant has been issued and the vehicle has been reported as stolen. We know that Stephanie (my daughter) left on Sunday December 30 at approx. 1300. She has taken a Garmin GPS system and one of my wife's credit cards.…

My Daughter is in a coma, please send prayers....

Please, friends, help us with prayers.. My divine ray of sunshine, my beautiful daughter Amanda was struck by a driver who left the scene of the accident in Port Jefferson Station on January 28th. She was driving to the gym, and was cut off by someone who stopped in front of her and she swerved to avoid him and was hit by a utility van and pushed into and struck a telephone pole. Three brain bleeds and bruising, collapsed lung and pneumonia now and fever, broken orbital bone, induced coma,…

I Believe

I believe... I will never be the woman that can wear white and not spill on it, that ice tea and popcorn count as a well rounded meal... That you can love the smell of coffee, even when you won't drink it... That when in doubt, classic is the way to go... I believe that smiling is the most attractive quality a person can have... That summer is by far the best season... That laughing is the best stomach workout... That bunny boots can be sexy... That feeling guilty is a bad habit, similar to… Continue

Quote of the day

Spoken by a construction worker we found lying on his back, covered in drywall dust, who had twisted his foot stepping from some scaffolding and had an obvious dislocated/fractured left ankle.

" It could be rainning pussy and I would get hit with a cock".

His buddy chimmed in with this "Yeah and it hit you right in your mouth"

Telling You What You Don't Want To Hear

As popular as the Firefighter Nation has become, it is still only around 14,000 people out of the million plus firefighters in the United States, not to mention the rest of our brothers across the globe. The 12k who have signed on here are but a scratch on the surface of a bigger universe; they are the responders who have access to computers and choose to spend some time looking around to see what they can see, logging in daily or weekly (or every ten minutes) to share some insight on their…

Difficulty Breathing

It's 10pm on a Friday night and I'm fast asleep on the couch, laptop whirring busily on my legs as my two female partners talk about their children. I hear something about a daughter selling Ritalin in school, and I roll over in my sleep. The other mother mentions something about how her son is going into professional baseball. I rub my eyes, sit up wearily and ask myself if this is the seven year old son I met last year. I shake my head and stretch, hating the fact that it's not even close to… Continue
