One Person Killed, Another Injured after Sumter Accident Sumter County (WLTX) -- One person is dead, and another is in the hospital after they were hit by a truck while walking near Sumter, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Troopers say the accident happened just before 8 p.m. Thursday night on Highway 378. Officials with the Highway Patrol says that a flatbed truck hit the two pedestrians while driving 45 miles an hour. One person was pronounced dead, and the other victim was flown to the hospital with serious injuries. The accident is still under investigation.
