Firefighters rescued an 11-year-old boy from a burn- ing mobile home in Delhi on Saturday afternoon, said Capt. Matt Watson of the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.

He said the boy, who was taken by ambulance to Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock and later airlifted to University of California at Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, was listed in critical condition.

It appeared that he suffered smoke inhalation, Watson said, but it was unclear if the boy also suffered burns.

The boy's mother and younger sister also were in the home when the fire started, but they were not injured. The names of the family members were not available Saturday afternoon.

The fire occurred in the 16500 block of Letteau Avenue, just west of Shanks Road and Highway 99.

Watson said the mother and younger sister were watching TV in the living room when they heard a "zapping" noise coming from behind them. They pulled a couch forward, saw flames near the wall and got out of the home.

The mother called 911 at 12:56 p.m., and firefighters arrived at the home four minutes later, Watson said.

When firefighters were told the boy was inside a bedroom, they went inside and discovered flames were blocking the bedroom door. Watson said the firefighters cut a hole in a wall between the living room and the bedroom and pulled the boy out.

Watson said firefighters had the fire contained in about 15 minutes, but it destroyed about 80 percent of the home and displaced the family. No other homes were damaged by the flames, and the cause of the fire was undetermined.

Watson said the home did not have smoke alarms.
