Hey Everyone,
I wasn't trying to decieve anyone by posting the blog about the injured FF's. It was sent to me by a friend of mine who is an Alabama-Coushata Indian and also a FF. I just thought I would let everyone elese read about the FF's being hurt if they had not read aything on it. I also tried to put up the web site that this article came from but couldn't get it to paste. (knowing me I did something wrong in trying to paste it....lol) So please accept my apologies if it was…

A question was posted about the SWAT Medic eBook to see if it was available in print? The answer is yes! It is offered in eBook for immediate download from lulu.com and Amazon on the Kindle viewer. It can be purchased from Surgical Tactics as a reference chart. The tactical medic training that is coming up in Austell 14-18 July is a level A course and meets or exceeds the TEMS and TC3 guidelines for tactical medics and medical professionals. It is clear at this moment, that there is not enough…

So if you think I haven't been motivated lately, and thus no recent blogs, you are wrong; just busy, is all. Motivation is all around us; like beauty, it is in the eye of the beholder. if you aren't feeling motivated by something, you probably aren't looking.
Motivation is what differentiates us sentient beings from ameobas, but even then, some painful stimuli from time to time will get even the lowest form of life to do something relatively modest and therefore, if we are just…

Some of you may have read my old post on being changed from a fire dept to a Public Safety dept. Sofar it is looking like we are loseing the training dept to PD and our budget was striped clean. not even 10 extra dollars for all of next year. HOWEVER... The cops got everything they asked for and than some. (we were picked clean!!!)
I resently applied to be a fulltime paid firefighter/emt...I fear that with the way things are going if I get the fulltime job I will give up my vol. dept.…

So things are looking up for Chief Jim Payne. He has been extubated and is breathing on his own. He is still in a coma and is being moved to a rehab center. He still looks like a guy who is in bad shape but his scans look good.... he just has alot of swelling that needs to decrease before we will really know his true condition. Prayers are still needed for him and his family.

Hey...
Another Firefighter has been injured at a working car fire from "projectiles". While not a new problem, one other fairly recent event was when a FF in Windsor Locks, CT was seriously injured when a hood strut "took off" and shot into his leg, thru his bunker gear, seriously injuring him as well. THAT CAR FIRE WAS ON Sunday November 21, 2004. Upon arrival the fire was confined to the engine compartment. During companies gaining access to the engine compartment, a Firefighters had…

I posted a comment in a training forum outlining a good search line drill that was easy and fun to do, and received
8 comments.
Then I see a post on whether or not blackened helmets are "cool" that received
26 comments.
I don't understand how this happens. It's not that my topic didn't receive any comments, I'm more miffed because I think people's priorities are fucked up.
That's all I wanted to say.
Remember - be safe out there, and…

Dress Code:
You are advised to come to work dressed according to your salary.
If we see you wearing Prada shoes and carrying a Gucci bag, we will
assume you are doing well financially and therefore do not need a
raise.
If you dress poorly, you need to learn to manage your money better, so
that you may buy nicer clothes, and therefore you do not need a raise.
If you dress just right, you are right where you need to be…

We had drill this week that I knew was coming down the pike from our disgruntled Chief (if someone's disgruntled, then why isn't "gruntled" a word too?) . We had a drill two weeks ago with an outdoor live burn that didn't go as hoped. The hydrant tapping process was, for lack of a better word, complete and utter chaos. As our chief stated at the end of the training drill..."If this had been an actual fire, we'd be doing nothing but raking up ashes, and I'd be turning in my white helmet out of…

We had our group run yesterday (Saturday)10 miles, which is the second to longest run in the prep for the half marathon. After next weekend (which I have to run by myself again because I have to work yet another Saturday for FASNY) we start the "taper" process; meaning that we start scaling back the mileage so that everyone is rested, uninjured (with me? You never know....four years ago I almost knocked myself out of my first half-marathon after I fell down a flight of stairs at work. I know…

Are there such a thing or is NJ just using NFPA 1006 and 1670 to get by?Reason I am asking is a fire chief wants a New Jersey "compliant" course.I intend to give a course but the chief brought up a good point. So what is "compliant "in the great state of NJ? Thanks.

If you are a member of the secret list. You probably heard. 3 ffs injured in MD. I didn't think much of it. We (FFs) get hurt. My mistake was not following one of my buds after college. He was one of the 3 injured in the collaspe. As of now, 11:21 pm Central, he has been released. The other 2 on his crew are still in ICU/Burn Unit. I've bowed my head and prayer... maybe/hopefully you will as well.

There's been a lot of stuff written and said about the Station Nighclub fire and tragedy in which saw the loss of 100 lives and a further 200 injured.
I'm not here to call into question the response of the emergency services to this event.
But we MUST use events like this and 9/11 and Worcester and others to learn from.
What can we do better?
What worked?
What didn't?
What needs…
