As usual the plane got delayed. So I am sitting in Norfolk Va waiting. I hate waiting. You would think after 19 -1/2 years in the military I would be used to it. NO!
Soooo.... what will I be doing over in Iraq? Fleet repair and management. Much of the reason I am a fire fighter is because of my vehicle back ground. I started out as a fire truck mechanic. More like a big kid with big toys. I LOVE fire trucks. When I promoted myself out of playing with fire trucks all day (thank you…

Wouldn't you know I would be diagnosed with a disorder that is represented by the color purple and who's name means wolf. Two of my favorite things are linked to this disorder that could very well reap havoc in my life. Two of my favorite things are connected to this disorder that is already starting to take away my dreams.
I have SLE or as it is more commonly known, Lupus. If you don't know, it is an Auto Immune Disorder which means the immune system cannot tell the difference… Continue

Love for me
It was just another day at the station but something made Steve feel a little different. He just had a strange and uneasy feeling deep down inside. Just then the alarm sounded, Code 90 house and fire is visible from the road. The trucks roll out in a flash with the lights and sirens blaring. Steve put on his turnout gear as they headed to the scene. Upon arrival, people were gathered outside and begin to yell she is still inside. Steve and his crew went straight in looking for…

This is the time of year when we remember the men and women who sacrificed their lives for our freedom. Whether these people include: Soldiers, Police Officers, EMS personnel or Firefighters or any other type of Military personnel. So, as we go to parades, picnics or whatever we do as part of our fourth of July celebrations, always remember why we do have Fourth of July and the freedoms that we have as a nation.
Have a safe and happy Fourth of July holiday!

A Firefighters Gloves hold many things
From elderly arms to a kids broken swing
From the hands they shake and the backs they pat
To the tiny claw marks of another treed cat
At 2 am they are filled with chrome
From the DWI who was on her way home
And the equipment they use to roll back the dash
From the family of 6 she involved in the crash
The brush rakes in spring, wear the palms out
When the wind does a “90” to fill them with…

On the night of Friday June 27, 2008 the county of Laclede, Missouri got a total of six structure fires between the time of aprox. 11:00 pm, and 6:00 am. The first call went out around 11:00 pm. This structure fire was a wood framed home in the eldrige fire district. While units were responding to this call a second structure fire went out. This was a large hay barn fully envolved. With these two calls going on, most of the county units were being used for tanker support. While the rural units…

Finally we get to go to the Guilderland Fire Tower and do our confined space drill....We were shut down two weeks prior...something to do with 97 degree heat and bunker gear and insurance liability.
Having never even seen a confined space drill, let alone participated, I was a little antsy on arrival. We pull up and I see four massive round concrete towers interconnected by these ridged plastic tubes......a Habitrail on a grand scale if you will. Little did I know that I was the…

What a crappy weekend. Saturday we were supposed to clean out our old engine and move all the stuff to the new truck and do all the hose work that I know everyone loves. Well that was only myself and another person that showed to do that, and right as we start, a neighboring department gets a fully envolved structure fire. I was freakin, finally some action besides the automatic alarms we had all week and a code 99. I should have known we wouldnt get called for MA, and we didnt, however the…

Hello all, I have one question????? id like to ask every Firefighter in the USA. Why is it that our Fire Depts and comand Staffs havent figured out how to use the resources of the Railroads in our country, I know for a fact that there are Hundereds of empty tank Cars setting around the US. We need to get them in use to help supply these Brush fires .it aint Rocket scince or that hard to figure out how to do it. You would have to take at least 3 sets of 1 Pumper and 10 - 15 tank Cars with 6000…

Loss of life is never a thing that we ever want to focus on.Today I think we should. We have lost some wonderful people that were doing a very difficult job. Why ? we don't know all the details yet. We should say prayers for the these people as they have passed on on Sunday at 1545 in Flagstaff Arizona.

I don't want this third cup of coffee. But I'm going to drink it anyway.
Besides, I need something to take the pill with. I hold it in my fingers, wondering whether my feeling better has more to do with feeling like I'm doing something than the actual medical action of this particular drug. I decide it doesn't really matter, that improvement is improvement and whatever dispels the dark is welcome.
I see skinny, tanned, shirtless country boys everywhere, ones like the one…

I have had a series of discussions with a number of folks over the last few months regarding firefighter/EMS safety, and the sorrow for all involved when an LODD happens.
Those that choose public safety (either paid or volunteer) are a very unique group. Not only are they firefighters, EMT's, Paramedics (and yes I include the Police), but they are scout leaders, church deacons, political figures, community leaders from all walks of life. They raise funds for Jerry's kids, assist with…
