Second Days a Little Better

Well we're up to 2 today.

First was a medical assist.

The second was an MVC with Rescue. We were back-up to a volunteer Truck who got out late so we got there after the Squad.

SUV on its roof with 2 still inside.

A little stabilization, and assist as needed.

Still have 3 hrs to go.

Stay safe

Lt. Dan

I am sorry but why in gods green earth would you build a house with wooden shingles in an area known to have wildfires. I hope there arent any firefighters killed fighting a fire on someone elses home that could…

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO REMEBER IS THAT EVERYONE GOES HOME EVERY TIME. NO MATTER THE CALL NO MATTER HOW SMALL WATCH YOUR BROTHERS' BACKS AND BE THERE FOR THEM ALL. WHEN ONE GOES DOWN WE ALL GO TOO AND WHEN YOU FALL I FALL WITH YOU. IF IT WERE TO HAPPEN AND YOU ASK WHY, ON MY SHOULDER YOU CAN CRY. JUST REMEMBER THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS ONE HERO WE ARE ALL IN IT TOGETHER ALL OVER THE WORLD. WITH THIS JOB COMES HONOR AND PRIDE AND THROUGH IT ALL I WILL BE BY YOUR…

Yesterday

Yesterday we put a brother firefighter to rest. Ernie was a friend to all and would do anything for anyone. We all loved him down the station. We will miss him down there. I must say that the guys down the station worked there butts off to make Ernie’s final farewell a great one. It will never cease to amaze me that with what we pulled of the last week with what we had. Everyone at the Mitchell pulled together to make…

The Wild,Wild West and the Demon Rum

As if the public's perception of volunteer firefighters as rabble-rousing, beer-swilling Howdy-Doody's fascinated by lights and sirens wasn't bad enough, I received this today in my in-box from "The Secret List"....

Hey....

In today's "ain't we proud" segment, a New York Firefighter was shot and wounded by another Firefighter who was drunk, in their upstate New York firehouse. FF Tyler Drake, 21, of Alexandria Bay, was accidentally shot in the right arm around…

Massage the Recruitment Message

The statistics are grim. The number of men and women signing up to volunteer for Emergency Services is declining at an alarming rate. Not only are the new recruit numbers dwindling, those that already belong are not staying.

Is it a social issue? Are the younger members of society simply not stimulated to respond to civic responsibility? Is today's fire service not exciting enough or is there too much competition for their time....

Remember when you were a kid, and one of the…

Breaking the Silence

I've been too silent for too long about an important subject in the fire service. I finally broke my silence in response to a discussion on drinking in the firehouse and a recent e-mail from Billy Goldfeder's not-so-secret "The Secret List" at www.firefighterclosecalls.com.

Here's what Billy wrote:…
