Yesterday we put a brother firefighter to rest. Ernie was a friend to all and would do anything for anyone. We all loved him down the station. We will miss him down there. I must say that the guys down the station worked there butts off to make Ernie’s final farewell a great one. It will never cease to amaze me that with what we pulled of the last week with what we had. Everyone at the Mitchell pulled together to make this a special day for the family. With the passing of Ernie everyone became a little closer to each other and showed why the station is one of the best in the county. Event though the guys at the Mitchell are from all over they did a hell of a job and that I am proud of. I think the guys from Independent Fire Co. Sta 301 need to be applauded to for there turnout and support of the family and of the Mitchell Family. The guys from the Independent came down and helped get the trucks ready and let us borrow the bracket for the casket for the truck. Thanks Guys. We should also give a Thank You to the members of the Croydon Fire Co for allowing us to borrow there parade axes to use for honor guard during the viewing. We should also thank the Union Fire Co. for allowing us to borrow there buffers and polishing ball for the trucks and offering services in whatever we needed. We should also give a big thanks to Battalion Chief Tomaszeski for his support for the Mitchell from day one when Ernie went down. He was a big help with the funeral and make sure the guys were alright. With the passing of Ernie the Mitchell Fire Co and Beverly Fire Department had some binding and came together well to make the final farewell for Ernie a memorable one for the family. I was thinking the week about Ernie and what could I do for him. I looked around the internet for some things and found a poem I thought was fitting for him. The poem is called Fallen:
Fallen
Rest now my fallen brother
Lay soft your suffering back
Rest well and forever
Your memory shall not lack
Rest your tired hands
Wipe clean your weary brow
Rest with St. Florian
Your spirit now endowed
Rest here your breaking heart
We know you gave your all
Rest easy, you’ve done your part
You’ve answered your last call
Rest knowing that in god we
Sought
Oh lord, watch over another who
Just fell
Rest assured your troubled
Thought
As we ring the final bell
I would like to thak to all my freinds on firefighter nation for there support the past couple of weeks.
Rest in Peace Ernie and look over all of us and we will never forget you and don’t worry I will bring the box of ho-ho’s for you when I come and see you.
