The Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department is saddened to announce that Firefighter Charles Nagel died on Sunday October 21st after a lengthy illness.
Charlie was a 28-year veteran of the fire department. Chuck was a very active member of the fire department. He was a past Vice President and President; a Line Lieutenant and Line Captain of Hamburg Heavy Rescue and on many committees including Bi-Laws and Grant writing.
He was active in the South-Towns Hazardous materials team for many years also. He recently retired after 36 years of civilian and Air Force Civil service time as the Niagara Falls Air Force Base’s Readiness Officer. Charles was the Department Chair of the Erie Community College – South Emergency Management Department. He taught and developed several courses at the college and was instrumental in obtaining several Federal grants to assist the college.
He leaves his wife Janice, two children Jennifer (Warren) and Kimberly (Franz) and four grandchildren: Joseph M. Warren, Jordan Warren, J. Connor Franz and Kimberlynn Franz.

FUNERAL SERVICE – Saturday – October 27, 2007 – 11 am St. Paul Lutheran Church of Eden 3487 N. Boston Road, Eden 14057
PARTICIPATION – Fire Departments and other agencies attending the funeral are welcome and are asked to contact Tiger Schmittendorf/Deputy Fire Coordinator at 716-432-3915 with the number of apparatus and personnel participating. There will be no vehicle procession. Honor Guards and apparatus are asked to gather at the church by 10 am on Saturday.
