Well took my first Medics exam today, and as of now I am waiting for the intructor to post the scores. He had said we should know sometime today, but the wait is agonizing. I do feel pretty good about the exam although I have to admit I was worried about it. I feel like I definitly passed but as to what percentage I have know Idea yet, and when I find out I will be posting an update.

Okay so before I had a 96 Chevy S-10 with just a dual head revolving mini light bar sitting on the roof. It was pretty wimpy. I just went out and bought a new Dodge Ram. I cant imagine disgracing it with just that tiny lightbar. Im looking to get a sweet dashlight (preferably actually something to go behing my rearview mirror) some grill lights, and something to go on the rear too. I already planned to put LED's in my fourway flashers but I'm just looking for any suggestions on what you guys…

I just returned from a trip to my hometown of Gallipolis, Ohio. It was the first time I had been home since Greg's funeral. It sure was good to be back in the country and among good friends (adopted family)! I stopped by the cemetery where Greg was laid to rest and paid my respects to my brother. I was feeling pretty lost without him for a while, but one evening as I was sitting by myself thinking I realized that I needed to keep smiling, laugh as much as I can, and enjoy the rest of my life…

Last Friday, I completed Hazardous Materials Technician training for the state of Arkansas. The next and last off-schedule course I will need (plus completing my college degree in fire science) is wildlands training, which is in October. Once I graduate in May, I will be ready to take the FFI and II exams.

WE DID IT! WPYX106 just called and notified me that I was voted FireFighter Of The Year, I know that that it was the support from all my brothers and sisters here at the Nation that made this possible. And a very Special Thank You to Mary Ellen Shea, aka" FASNY Training" for the nomination as well as all the PR that she put into it.
I am very proud to be able to make the claim of being a member of Firefighter Nation and this without a doubt is the biggest example of why I have that…

Another post lol!! I just wanted to say there are some really AWESOME people on this site. You know how when you go somewhere, and you feel like OMG are they going to like me. Then everyone is so warm, and kind. Well that's what it's like here everyone is so friendly. It's pretty neat if I must say so myself.
Until we meet again,

Thought I start off a new blog on here titled "Journey". Hmm!! I love writing blogs lol, and I enjoy people reading them. But anyway back to what I came here to do. For so long I had my mind set on one thing, and that was to become a Forensic Scientist. So many shows inspired me to do that, and I was always content in knowing for sure that was my calling. I did everything in making that possible. Studying anything that had to do with Forensics, looked for school's who offered the best programs,…

Customer relations are essential for any department operating in this day and age, as our customers (read: taxpayers) are more educated and have higher expectations of the emergency services. These expectations come from watching television shows that portray us in a certain light as well as more information going out in the form of public education efforts.
There are considerable efforts being made by leaders in our industry to increase our professionalism. We need to consciously…

I originally sent this out to all of my friends, but thought that some of you might find it interesting, as well. Check out the link to see pictures of the aftermath of Hurricane Ike in Galveston, Kema and other towns.
The last "really bad" hurricane I went through was in 1970 when Hurricand Celia hit Corpus Christi. I will never forget the fear I felt or the awesome strength of the storm as it destroyed the home we lived in then. Over the years, I have been through several "lesser" storms…

Havent been able to get up to the firehouse since last month, but some how im still involved in its drama. Why is it, that there is ALWAYS that one new probie that thinks he is CHRIST REINCARNATED and he can do whatever he wants? Start whatever he wants? With whomever he wants? And the officers think he is all high and holy, cause most of them tend to his every need! LET ME TELL YOU. The firehouse IS NOT a social event like your damn high school. Grow up and get real. You join the firehouse to…

To all;
A few of us attended the Pittsburgh Fire / EMS Expo. Some of us attended classes. The fire dept. picked up
the tab for the training, with the caveat being, those of us who did attend classes were requested to bring
something back to share with our department. So I will share this. What I have listed below may be
repetitious for some, however, with as many firefighter injuries and deaths we suffer from locally, and as a State, and as a Nation, it begs to be…

As I sit here writing this blog, I'm at the New York State Academy of Fire Science, in their quaint little computer lab... with more bruises than I can count, more pain in my body than I could have imagined... yet somehow feeling at ease.
Let me explain. I decided that this would be the year for me to attend the Annual Women's Week at the State Fire Academy in Montour Falls. In order for me to get the permission to attend, I needed to select courses that weren't offered in my little…
