Sophia Elizabeth

So I had to blog about my new daughter Sophia. She was born yesterday at 1143 am, has all her toes, fingers and other vital parts, and she is beautiful! Her trip into this crazy world was the makings of a great story, so I thought I would share with all of you, my faithful readers. If you know me, well lets just say that you know promptness isn't my strong suit. For those of you who don't just pretend I am punctual...nah, that just wouldnt be me. OK… Continue

The Continuing Chronicles of the FNG(irl): My First Night Call

I'm not a morning person. I never have been, I never will be. I like to roam with the creatures of the night.

Fact of the matter is that I do my best thinking, writing, meditating and brainstorming in the very wee hours of the morning. Unfortunately for me (or for my coworkers depending on your perspective) my nocturnal habits don't mesh so well with my work schedule.

In order to arrive at my desk on time ( I use airline schedules when I state that I was "on time"--that… Continue

Hometown hero laid to rest with honors

Hometown hero laid to rest with honors

HAMPTON—A volunteer firefighter since his teens, Hampton Fire and Rescue Squad Deputy Chief Daniel Rumsey dedicated his life to the emergency services of Sussex County, his friends say.

Rumsey was the man who helped start three emergency squads in the county: He was founder of the Hampton Fire and Rescue Squad, a member and founder of the original Fredon Emergency Medical Service, and founder of the Fredon-Stillwater EMS, which… Continue

Training leads to "Don't think react!!"

I came across this article today from almost a year ago and loved the photos that accompanied. It clearly showed the firefighters in control of this situation and then in a single ACTION, saved the life of a clearly distraught man. The photos tell the whole story... imagine being a part of a department that doesn't have the time, money or desire to train? The outcome of this could have been very, very different. I'm not sure anything else needs to be said, the article and especially pictures… Continue

Something Sweet

A nursery school teacher was delivering a station wagon

full of kids home one day when a fire truck zoomed past. Sitting in

the front seat of the truck was a Dalmatian dog. The children started

discussing the dog's duties. "They use him to keep crowds back," said

one child. "No," said another, "he's just for good luck." A third child

brought the argument to a close. "They use the dogs, "she said

firmly, "to find the fire hydrants..

LOL, hope… Continue

Shoeing Your Horses

Some people think that they can get away with not shoeing their horses. But they also try to ride them on rocks and gravel. Then they wonder why the horse is lame or has bruising or abcesses on the sole of the foot.I keep telling my clients that if they are going to ride on the gravel or any rough terrain. That they need to at least need to put shoes on the front feet.Because pretty much all their weight is distibuted on the front feet.So thatr is were you need the protection most of the time. If… Continue

17 Years Later (YIPPEEE!)

All the fuss over nothing - NO calls overnight, NO power interruptions, in fact the rest of the county was pretty quiet also.

_______________

The weather forecast is pretty grim today. They are calling for freezing rain – up to ¾ of an inch of ice is possible by tomorrow morning.

THE GREATEST RISK OF FREEZING RAIN NOW APPEARS TO BE FROM THE WESTERN S. TIER TO THE FINGER LAKES REGION BUT THIS IS NOT CERTAIN & THERE REMAINS A RISK ACROSS THE ENTIRE… Continue
