Be A Kid Again

This was in my email this morning from a very good friend, and I thought there were too many truisms in this not to share with my friends on here.

Just Venting...

I don't know if anybody else here has had any troubles with accessing your mail or your friends, but I have not been able to do so 17 out of 20 times(and thats a low estimate).I'm not ignoring anyone, I just don't have the icons in the upper left where they belong.Everytime I log on a little yellow triangle with an exclamation point appears in the lower left on my status bar with "Error on page" or "Done, but with errors on page!".I am logging in the right way but I am getting very frustrated… Continue

Getting hooked on websites

Firefighternation, MySpace, Marines.TogetherWeServed.com, those are just some of the websites I frequent to connect with friends and acquaintances. I use MySpace for a variety of reasons but mostly as a way to connect with friends from long ago which I am no long near since I've moved to the east coast. MTWS.com is a site that allows me to keep up with the greatest achievement I could ever do. It allows me to reconnect with fellow Marines and virtually hang around the worlds finest and no one… Continue

Passed Firefighter 1

Got news in December 07 that I passed Firefighter 1. Now I am getting ready for my EMT class coming up this Feb 2008. I have been able to go on calls at the Volunteer station, which is exciting for a "rookie".

It's RIT Time Again???

Well, where do I start?

Our state and counties are starting to feel the increased number of alarms due to the plain fact, Delaware is growing in population. The only thing that is not growing is Volunteer Firefighters? I still volunteer and very proud of that accomplishment, but my Career counterparts don't like it too much...But thats enough of that. I am writing this blog to uncover our misconceptions that we have developed within this state. We believe that because of our long…

Disorientation and the Interior Firefight

During a recent Delaware incident, 7 firefighters became trapped on a 2nd floor duplex during a tough firefight. Fortunately, the firefighters were rescued by an agressive Rapid Intervention Team with just minutes to spare. Initial reports were that there was no life hazard, as occupants had been accounted for. But considering the time of day, 7:30am on a Saturday morning, Chief Chuck Hayes did what most chief officers would do -- order a… Continue

point system

DO YOU THINK THAT A PLACE OF BUSINESS SHOULD BE ABLE TO GIVE EMPLOYEES A HALF A POINT WHEN THEY COME IN LATE TO WORK WHEN THEY HAVE BEEN ON A FIRE SCENE?

The Nickname

I know my Nickname looks kind of bad but I was actually given that name by a few people. The full name is the Adrenaline Junkie. My parents and a bunch of my colleagues gave me that nickname because I get so excited so fast about calls. Whether the calls are big or even small... when the tones drop my pulse sky rockets. I love the rush I get from this job... I always have even when my dad first got started and before I really officially got certified in anything!

Tradition Begins Today

Although I have been the Deputy Director of our state US&R task force and had chief's rank in different capacities before, today I donned the Christmas gift from my wife and children, a brand-new white N6A, marking my new career as a Chief Fire Officer. Last night, a bunch of us gathered at Reilly's, a little pub on the Island's north end, to talk about our future and celebrate our past. Jeff, who has been my friend and brother firefighter for over 24 years, was one of the groomsmen at…

The meaning of the success

To laugh often and much

To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children.

To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends.

To appreciate beauty.

To find the best in others.

To leave the world a little better, whether by a healthy…

Drive Defensively

This is a short one...the linked story is the real story; keep your wits about you while on the road, because while you might be able to account for YOUR actions while driving, you can't account for the other drivers' actions, particularly when alcohol is involved.

The 1st Asst. Chief of Wilton Fire Department (Upstate NY) was involved in a head-on collision with a drunk driver while pulling out of his station. He'll recover, but we all know that this outcome is sadly not often the…

Update: Tax Incentive for Volunteer Firefighters and EMS workers

Recently I have found out there is an NY State tax incentive that you can file for. When filing your NYS income tax for 2007 remember to use form IT-245 to claim your $200 or $400 Tax Credit for volunteering as FF or Ambulance Worker. You can find this form at www.ny.gov or www.srems.com. Thanks for your time.
