A 37-year-old hairstylist from San Francisco was charged in an auto theft case. So on the day of his court arrainment…he showed up in - you guessed it….a different stolen car. Police caught him approaching the stolen vehicle with the keys in his hand after his court appearance and arrested him. Now he’s got another arrainment to be at….hopefully he’ll take a cab this time.

Fire training in Jan.

I talked to my Asst. Chief yesterday and have decided it's about time for me to now get my fire card. AHHHH!!!!!!!!! I'm so excited. I love this work so much! Another Day at the office

You ever had those days where you just wondered Is this just another day or did every wierdo come out today. That was the kinda day it seemed to be. Couple squad runs and injury accident sort of. But thats all part of the job. We all have those days.

Today 11-7-08

Well today started off at around 0700 i heard the phone ring twice but i was sleeping so at around 0930 i got up to see who had called. TO MY GREAT SURPRISE one call was from the Jacksonville Fire Department (JFD) and I about shitted myself because i really didn't expect to hear from them, so i was jumping for joy. Final Lab practice

Just got back from my Final Lab practice session, all about airway and respiration. Got to try a new technique, nasal intubation, wow that is pretty cool. I will be studying the lab book all weekend and trying to get ready for the test Monday morning. Still waiting on the 3rd exam results and will update that when he sends them out.

The makings of a good day!

So, I wake up to a call and spring out of bed to a possible structure fire. I get on scene, walk to the back of the house and wouldn't you know it, it's a prominent business man in my town and he tells me no pictures. "Yea, right." I know he was kidding but no one tells me "No pictures." LOL!

The Continuing Chronicles of the FNG(irl): Culinary Throw-Down

Our business meeting is held the first Tuesday of the month (Presidential Election be damned), and every month three members of my department are selected to prepare the group meal at the conclusion of the meeting. We are charged with feeding anywhere from 35-60 folks a full dinner, while still keeping the total food costs to under $100.

That works out to roughly $2 per person for a plate of chow.

What does your state require for firefighter training, type, hours, etc.?

It seems to me that there is a very wide range of requirements nationwide and from state to state. I am reaching out to the members of FFN asking for your help in comparing these requirements.

I am in search of what each state requires for training hours for a firefighter, i.e. such as Basic Firefighting, a 28 hour/36 hour/120 hour course, FF1,and FF2.

HI - Former Firefighter Faces 10 Years For Starting Fires

HONOLULU -- A former Honolulu firefighter will be sentenced to 10 years in prison for starting three brushfires this summer.

The fires near Makapuu in July burned 8 acres at Alan Davis Park and endangered three park visitors.

Kenton Leong, 42, admitted he was smoking crystal methamphetamine before lighting the brush.

MO - Firefighter Murdered in North County Carjacking

An off duty St. Louis City firefighter has died after being shot in North St. Louis County.

Police say the firefighter was the victim in one of a series of four carjackings in the area of Sheply and Spring Garden and down to Riverview.

Police say a woman was carjacked, then the suspect crashed her car. The firefighter was reportedly trying to help the carjacker, who he thought was simply a wreck victim.

We're Back

hey all just wanted to let you know we are back and doing real well.

Books for Emergency Service Families

I am a book junkie, especially when it comes to my office. I really like to have a lot of resources relating to the work that I do as a chaplain on hand. I have learned quite a bit from reading various titles on grief, trauma, traumatic stress, abuse, and fire & police families. I have learned a lot in my education but there is always room to learn more. Reading books helps me better myself as a chaplain.
