As a follow-up to Fire Siren's blog about choosing the appropriate forum for a post, here is my suggestion: Decide whether to post your thoughts as a DISCUSSION or as a BLOG, then do it. Don't post the same thing in both places.
For all of the newer members, there is a very handy SEARCH tool with which you can surf this site to see if your hot topic has been discussed before. If so, chances are very good that there are a number of responses from other members already; adding your $.02…

Hi im Michael from the Philippines, Im a volunteer here in our city. And unlike Volunteers in the US we are not connected with our local fire department.,meaning with the government. We are private own organization, organized by Chinese merchants since 1970's to help protect our city and giving assistance to our local fire department. Our government doesn't give out grants for us. And we supply our own equipment by ourselves.
Are there any fire departments who has used or surplus…

My fire district Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Wheeler was winner of week 6. He was nominated for Ameica's Most Wanted "All Star" Award. Because of his action on June 5, 2007 to safe a life of a burning victim of an accident involving two tractor trailers colliding head-on and the third swerved into the crash. In order to save the burning victim, who was on fire and running, Assistant Chief Wheeler needed to chase and tackle him to put the flames out. It's now up to us to increase the chances that…

I am hoping someone can help me out. I am looking for used Motorola HT 1250 portable radios, possibly 2 or 3, in good shape. I am looking for low band (35 - 50 mhz). EBay is nice but hard to find low band. I am going to look at the Harrisburg Fire Show but they will probably get top dollar, so I figured I'd try here. Let me know if you can help in any way. Also, anybody going to Harrisburg for the Fire Show, the T&C boys will be at Gilligan's on Saturday night if you wanna stop by and say…

This is an excellent idea......and to have come from a teenager....just
think!!!!!!!! An idea from the son of a 9/11 firefighter... so before
you delete this, just remember that this is a 14 year-old boy who lost
his father on September 11th All you're asked to do is type, point and
click. He's got a really great idea. Thanks!
Hello, I lost my Dad on September 11th; he was Chief Edward Geraghty,
Battalion 9, New York City Fire Department. He lost his…

Door Entry Procedure ....
1 There was no obvious fire in the building as firefighters arrived on-scene but there was a strong smell of burning and some smoke was seen issuing from a chimney in the six-story building. As Firefighters opened the door leading onto the stairway, heavy smoke suddenly turned to flame. The intense fire that followed killed several firefighters caught above in the stair-shaft

As I've grown, I've learned several things. Life is full of disappointments & people you trusted will sooner or later let you down. I've learned that often those you love will love someone else & there's only one way to fall; fast & hard. I've learned that out of thousands of smiles, it takes one to touch your heart. I've found that words can be deceiving, but the truth always lies in a person's eyes. I've learned that everything can change in the blink of an eye & tears often…

I wish you could know what it is like to search a burning bedroom for
trapped children at 3AM, flames rolling above your head, your palms and
knees burning as you crawl, the floor sagging under your weight as the
kitchen below you burns.
I wish you could comprehend a wife's horror at 6 in the morning as I check
her husband of 40 years for a pulse and find none. I start CPR anyway,
hoping to bring him back, knowing intuitively it is too late. But…

Firefighters honor Burlington City boy for quick response
By LAURI SHEIBLEY
Burlington County Times
BURLINGTON CITY — Four-year-old Athan Rhoads was in the kitchen of his Burlington City home last month when his younger brother reached up and turned the knobs on a gas stove.
The burner turned on and ignited a pile of dish towels. Athan saw the fire and immediately told his parents.
“He knew it was hot,” said Athan's father, Robert. “He said it…

And I am adopting it as my own. No, I will not adopt it, I am it! I have lived it for as long as I can remember.
The following is a speech NRA President Charlton Heston gave to the
Harvard Law School Forum on February 16, 1999.
I remember my son when he was five, explaining to his kindergarten
class what his father did for a living. "My Daddy," he said, "pretends to
be people."
There have been quite a few of them. Prophets from the…

Tuesday, April 15, 2008- WEST NYACK - An emergency medical technician lost her right arm yesterday after the ambulance she was riding in struck a truck parked on Route 59 in West Nyack, Rockland County, N.Y. The impact sheared off the passenger’s side of the ambulance.
The above story is availalbe at http://firefighterclosecalls.com/fullstory.php?63821
The photo that accompanies that story is difficult for any EMS provider to look at.
I commend her co-workers…

Well FDIC was a blast as usual, I got lots done, saw lots of new toys and tools and met a few new friends and a lot of old ones.
If you ever have a chance you really need to get to FDIC if or nothing but the exhibits but the training is unreal as well. Bruno, Norman, Laskey, and Goldfedder as well as others that are true legends etc.
It's worth the trip.

As many of you know, we here in the Cincinnati area experienced the loss of two of our own. Channel 9 here has initiated a Appreciation Day for firefighters on April 17th. Let's not let this be an isolated event. I believe this could be a time to, not only express appreciation to those who serve, to to expand awareness of firefighter safety. Get your community involved! If you do something for April 17th, please post it here to let everyone know of ways to become active in their community. Here…

My daughter Caroline turns four tomorrow. She’s our middle child and some of you know she has
Down syndrome which makes her life a little more interesting than yours and mine. When she was born, we really had no idea what to expect. I knew some friends whose children had DS, but really, other than that, I had no inkling of the potential issues that could possibly be made manifest as a result of this diagnosis.
The short form…
