BullEx Firefighter 1 Bootcamp 2010: Walking The Talk

Caveat: I'm employed by BullEx Digital Safety. This post is not intended to promote the company's products or financial interests. I just think it's pretty cool when your own company takes its employees for a full day of firefighter training to better familiarize them with the products and services they represent.

When CEO Ryan O’Donnell unexpectedly pulled the entire Sales and Marketing team into the conference room at BullEx headquarters in the…

Working with the public.

I have been in the fire service for 11 years and have never seen anything like this. Almost everytime we get a tone and enroute to a scene there are some public citizens that don't like to move out of the way. Does anyone else have this problem? If so how can we fix it?

PFC Tyler Thorpe U.S. Army 977th MP corps.

This past week, November 17, 18, 19th one of my close friends, my son, and I drove to NYC from Maine. This trip was a trip Tyler and I planned for many years but each time it got cancelled for one reason or another. Before I knew it, Tyler had graduated High School and he was off to the Army. Tyler is a firefighter for two call companies in our area, he is the real deal, loves everything about the fire service. Tyler is respected amongst his peers, and senior firefighters for his abilities…

TSA

Whats up with everyone complaining about TSA?

TSA gave me a pat down, they will give you a pat down if and when you fly so why fuss about it?

TSA has been giving pat downs for a while and its just now people have an uproar about it. People should be happy TSA cares about our security.

I find it fun when I am flying, I sit back and watch TSA screen people and spend the time laughing. You get to see so many uncomfortable…

Tools in the Toolbox

"The fire service is fascinated with acronyms. Some have been around for a while. PSI, GPM, and RIT are examples. Some others are new VSP and CRM for example. We are also fascinated with new ideas and techniques. We are focused on these new ideas to fix old problems. Maybe the problem is that we keep looking for solutions when we should just fix the problem.…

Bunker Gear from E-Bay... is it reliable?

Something is better than nothing right? Hmm, I keep telling myself that. I bought some bunker gear from E-Bay and will donate it to a brigade in the Philippines. I am hoping that it is reliable. I don't buy from E-Bay often and I have never bought firefighting items from E-Bay. I guess I will find out. Since I have not really been getting donations and I have been spending my own money to get gear. I decided maybe E-Bay is the best option. I am just hoping I am sent something that I could… Continue

Finally got some donations

After over 3 years of asking for donations, I have stopped asking. I just save money and buy equipment. When I lef the Philippines I donated what little I had to people who had less. Now, I do not have anything. Literally, I have absolutely nothing. I went to a local fire supply store today to buy a pair of boots so I can start to get more gear for when I go back to the Philippines and the store said they would donate some items. They gave me a massive discount on boots and then they donated 2… Continue

Darley Products Help Communities Purify Water in Times of Disaster

Inside the Apparatus Industry

Story & Photos by Bob Vaccaro

As I was walking around the exhibit floor at FRI a few months ago, I stopped by the always-large Darley booth. Darley always has an array of products to peruse, which isn’t surprising considering that they’ve been around since 1908 and have always had a jump on many other manufacturers when it comes to new ideas for the… Continue
