A FIREFIGHTER'S PRAYER

When i am called to duty, God Whenever flames may rage, Give me the strength to savesome life Whatever be it's age, Help me embrace a little child Before it is too late Or save an older person from The horror of that fate Enable me to be alert and Hear the weakest shout And quickly and efficiently To put the fire out I want to fill my calling and To give…

Remember

In each of our daily routines we must be very consciencious of our surroundings and whats going on. You must also remember to relax and enjoy the simple things in life as well. You need to laugh and live and love a little more then most given what you do for a living.

NC DRY CONDITIONS

The following is a copy of a bulletin I posted on myspace. If you live in NC please contact the right people.

We responded to a call tonight of a man burning trash not 10 foot from

a wooded area. The man refused to put it out and there was nothing we

could do because he lives in the county where it is legal for him to do

that. Not long after we left we were called back out to put the woods

out.

As you all know we are in a severe drought and… Continue

Sam, the EMT

I've grown restless of being an ambulance driver. I've run the gamut of precepting requirements and I'm now an official non-probationary medic driver. I should be excited, but I'm not; I long to be in the back.

Whenever we run a call, I get to help out a little bit. It's something like, "Sam, can you get a pulse-ox on him," or, "Could you get me a bp on her?" The little bit I get to do is thrilling.

I'm a doctor's daughter who wore kid-sized scrubs when dad would take me on rounds. I… Continue

I miss open bay bunkrooms...

We are so far beyond spoiled today. I just finished watching the end of the Cowboys game in the dayroom at Station 2 and there were 3 of us in there jumping around, yelling at he 60" bigscreen TV. Sounds great huh...well, it wasnt long ago, at least 10 of the 11 guys in the station would have been in there. And at least 2-3 would have been cheering for the Bills, never mind we are oh 2000 miles from upstate NY. It's just how it used to work, there had to be the…

As for my fellow brothers and sisters on a Fire Department, I wanted to let you all know that my sister and her husband got back from Emmitsburg, MD today.. I must say i was unable to go out there, but i have heard so many good things.. Its a day where we all gather to remember the fallen. What drives me to be a firefighter/EMS responder

I started out 17 years ago when I was with a friend of mine and our town started flooding and I took him to the station to start rescue operations. The Chief asked if I wanted to help, so he give me a pair of boots and I jumped on the back of the truck and have been hooked ever since. Through everything I've been through since I've always had my brothers and sisters right there when I need them most. I love what I do…

Borrowed but True

Dear citizens of (and visitors to) Wayne County

By and large, you're a good bunch. I enjoy providing you with the help you need when you call 911. You make my workdays (and nights) interesting. However, from time to time, I notice a few small issues -- perhaps we can call them gaps in your knowledge? -- that make my job a little bit more frustrating. Herein I offer a few simple pieces of advice to help make everyone's emergency experience more satisfying.

1. When I ask… Continue

Firefighters’ Deaths Add to Pressure for Drug Tests

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/10/06/us/06boston.html?_r=1&th&emc=th&oref=slogin

This NY Times story indicates that Boston FD does not do random drug testing on their members. That made me nervous when I read it. Then I thought my department doesn't do testing either. Should the volunteers get with the program and random test their…

Evans Center is Active in the Community in October

TOWN OF EVANS NY --- You won’t have to look far to find Evans Center Firefighters in the community in the month of October.

More than a dozen firefighters and fire explorers were present in uniform at the Lake Shore Middle School on Monday-October 1 to support “Rachel’s Legacy” presented by Mr. Darrell Scott. Mr. Scott’s daughter Rachel was the first student killed in the Columbine High School tragedy in 1999. The fire company was there to support the school’s initiatives of promoting…

Pride

I have been a Volunteer with the Beltsville VFD in Maryland for 24 years. I am very proud of what we have accomplished throughout the years and look forward to many more years. I enjoy being a volunteer and I am very proud to say that I am one. I am a volunteer in a combination system, there are ups and downs but its all what you make of it. We are all here to do the same JOB, so lets keep it going and stand tall.
