Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...June 13, 2009
I can't tell you how I feel when I turn on my laptop in the morning and see a friend's request, or someone sent me a message, through firefighternation.com.
Today is Saturday and I was supposed to back to where I used to live on Eastern Long Island to visit some old friends. Important since I don't have any local friends who I can go to the mall with, or take a walk with, etc. You know - the kind of friends you've had since…

To my brothers and sisters in Emergency Services, let's focus on reducing line of duty injuries and deaths, and keep that focus ongoing throughout the year and always! I have always said, "Plan your work and work your plan". The work is in how to prevent these line of duty injuries and deaths. The plan is to make sure that Everyone Goes Home! How do you get people to look at themselves and realize all the problems they complain about are being caused (mostly) by them? It's frustrating when people cannot see there own limitations, Oh and anyone who knows me personally who thinks i am talking about them specifically you need to ge over yourselves and maybe take something from his blog and look in the mirror and evaluate where you are heading... sorry if i have offended anyone just needed to get this out.

Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...June 12, 2009
As I write this, I hear my 15 year old son's alarm to get up for school.
Just last week, he made the decision to go back to school for the last two weeks to return his life to some sort of normalcy, and go to therapy after school for 4 hours. This is a kid who knows what he wants.
I never told you too much about R. He wants to be a police officer. We adopted him at one day old from a tiny town near Ohio. I remember…

I have seen little 5 question surveys on other networking sites that will tell you which piece of equipment best describes or represents you. I have taken a couple of them and they all pretty much say the same thing, just with a little different wording. So, I wanted to know how each of you would describe YOURSELF, in terms of equipment?

Thought since I had a moment I would drop by and post an eplanation on my absent postings. Things around here have been crazy lately, my stepson, whom got stupid and was therefore kickout as he was 18 y/o has since gotten back with his girl friend who lives here with us and has a baby by him. Of course that doesn't change the fact that he still doesn't live here. So besides working out alot and trying to get her to act like a mom to her son and the sudden babysitting that needs to be taken care…

Boy they say that time goes fast, and that is all too true.
I have been scrambling to keep up with my new job, letting go of real estate without the whole world knowing, especially my old clients, and dealing with two children that have totally different mental issues. Time will tell on the third child, but I am hoping by the time he is older I will have a wealth of information that I can pull from.
Unfortunately…

Just another boring day in Fayette County for me, doing yard work and what not, and I had just finished when it started to rain. I didnt think much of it but over the course of a few minutes the rain got harder, so I said
"Maybe we should go pick up dinner while it is only raining" so we left, on our way to subway the rain got harder, and it started to thunder and lightening, and jokingly to myself i said "yea watch us have a call and i dont have my gear with me". Standing in the line at…

A woman was going about her household tasks when she noticed her young son reading the Bible aloud to the cat. How sweet she thought to herself. a short time later, she heard a terrible noise outside and went out to investigate. Arriving on the back porch, she found her son trying to stuff the cat into a bucket of water much to the cat's disapproval.... "Johnny! what are you doing?" she asked. "I'm baptising Muffin" he replied. "But cats don't like water" she said. "Then he shouldn't have…

Every trade magazine I pick up these days addresses the economy’s negative effect on local government, small or large, and area fire departments. It doesn’t matter where you are or what discipline you work in—everyone’s talking about it.
Funding is in short supply, and we’re seeing nontraditional effects. For example, over the past year, cities in and around Atlanta have decided to close stations permanently, brown out stations, close stations temporarily depending on that…
