I was just looking for opinons on new upcoming Officers. How many years experience do you think they should have and what type of experience. My department allows you to run for a LT position as long as you have been off probation for a year.

FIREFIGHTERS
They are a special breed one and all
Willing to give it their all on every call
Weather to fight the beast or to save a life
Morning, noon, or night
They never give up the fight
When that fight requires their life
We must never forget their children or their wife
For brothers and sister all are we
Whenever one falls we should all bend a knee

Only the Best: How to hire the right officer for the job
By Stephen M. Coleman Jr.
As a fire chief, promoting a firefighter to company officer may be one of the single most important decisions you make.
Department personnel are the backbone of our organization, so if we don’t promote high-quality people to lead them, we’re setting up our departments for decreased employee morale, legal concerns and/or problems with public perception and support.
So we…

A Gift of the Heart
Letting People Know You Love Them
Chaplain Allen Tanner
MAC; CAAP
It’s easy to take our feelings for granted and to assume that the people we care about know how we feel about them. But while those we love are often quite cognizant of our feelings, saying "I love you" is a gift we should give to our loved ones whenever we can. Letting people know you love them is an important part of nurturing any kind of loving relationship. Few people…

Another tragedy is hitting too close to home for Station 8 of the Cy-Fair Volunteer Fire Department. Last year, one of its firefighters lost both legs in an accident. On Thursday, the daughter of the station's fire captain was killed in a crash the firefighters were sent to in northwest Harris County.

A few nights ago, my wife woke me up at 2:30 in the morning saying someone was beating at the front door. Pistol in hand, off I go and peek through the peep hole to see four of Hood County’s finest on the porch. I put the pistol on the cabinet and opened the door to a “What’s going on in there?”
“Sleeping.”
“We got a…

God Bless the victims, families, friends and loved ones. ONE YEAR LATER WE REMEMBER..... On Thursday, Feb. 12, 2009 at 10:20 p.m., Continental flight 3407, en route from Newark, N.J., spun from the sky and crashed into a home as it made its approach to Buffalo Niagara International Airport. All 49 people on board the plane were killed, as was one man in the house in Clarence Center. It was the worst aviation accident in Western New York history.

You hear the horror stories about how the probie had to wash the rigs all by himself or do all the other firefighters dirty laundry for that introduction thing that some houses do. Hear the one about the female firefighter being herased by her fellow firefighters (because shes a girl????) LOL. Iv'e been there, done that. I belong to a fire department that, oh…
