Junior/Explorer program help.

(posted on the forum as well. Some people blog, some people work the forums)

For those that have followed my discussions (and yes there are just a few of them) you will know I am extremely passionate in promoting Junior/explorer programs. I don't have the gift to outline phenominal programs as the likes of Tiger Schmittendorf (read his recruiting and retention blogs, they are amazing) but I do have some summer pointers to help promote our next generation of "young blood" and… Continue

Paramedic, patient killed in crash. Sussex County Delaware Paramedic Killed in the LOD

A Sussex County paramedic and an 82-year-old patient were killed early Tuesday when the ambulance they were riding in swerved to miss a deer and smashed into a tree.

"We are having our worst day," said Glenn Luedtke, Emergency Medical Services director, while choking up Tuesday and nearly unable to speak. "We are a family."

Killed were paramedic Stephanie L. Callaway, 31, and patient Betty J. Hall, both of Lewes. Callaway was in the rear of the ambulance attending to… Continue

Update on my Friends Mother!!!!

Okay you all that are praying for my co-worker/friends mother that is in the hospital, her trip to the better facility was made Monday about 5:30 pm or so, she's been down there of course every since, Last night I got a text from Jennifer saying that they are taking her mother down in the morning(June 18) to do the Liver biopsy, the oncologist said it's a good possibility that Dr. Newman removed all of the cancer, but will not know for sure until they go in and see. I got a text about 10… Continue

TNT: The Accidental Runner; The Port-o-Potty Incident

I ran my half marathon on Sunday (Father's Day) in Lake Placid to raise funds for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The dawn saw the start to a beautiful day in Lake Placid. After a restless night of tossing and turning the night before....I finally popped half a Lunesta (too much adrenaline, too much overthinking my run strategy, too worried about missing my wakeup call....etc.etc.) and slept like the dead...so at 5:30 I was wide awake and ready to go. I crawled out of bed in… Continue

Another night of funnel cakes

We’ve had an exceptionally busy month and it’s only half over. The capper to that is this is the Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival Celebration in our town. A week of runs. bikes, parades, carnivals, car races, and yes firemen. We get 50 or 60 thousand extra tourists in our first due and a concurrent increase in calls to boot. The nice thing is that we staff the station for visitor tours and have extra folks rotating in for stand bys and relief. I’ve met and compared notes with safety officers… Continue

June 18, 2007

Tommorrow, it will have been a year since the horrible tragedy at the Sofa Super Store.

The year has flown by for most of us, but it's been the longest and saddest year in the lives of our brothers from the Charleston Fire Department and especially for the families of the Charleston 9. I was one of the family escorts for the memorial service, and it was one of the hardest things I've ever done. I knew two of the nine, and that just made it worse.

Heather, if you read this,… Continue

O.K. I guess I better watch it or I will gain 5000 pounds. I am just sitting around (in pain might i add) nursing this stupid broken finger, eatting Cheez-it's drinking Coke and watching T.V. Sounds great I know but probally in the long run not such a good thing.

Loss

Hello all,

It was a horrific week. I lost a wonderful friend to a senseless crime. He was a tremendous man, father and fire Captain. I feel sad and lost. While dealing with this i break a finger so i am out on short term disability for 6 weeks. Geez. Life can be so cruel and totally unpredictable and can leave you out there swinging in the wind.

Notes from a Rookie Firefighter

It seems like yesterday, and not almost a year ago, that I saw the Heroes Wanted sign on the banner for the Morris Township Fire Department at the Streeter pool in Morris Township. I am actually writing this column on the grass at the pool, thinking about the long road I've taken to get to fill one of my goals being a volunteer firefighter.

Volunteers get free membership at the pool, as well as other things provided by Morris Township. I didn't even know that when I signed… Continue

Contempt

It was bound to happen eventually.

Saturday, the latest in a string of early risings, only this time for no reason. Last year I watched dozens of racing bikes hum down an ill-advised hill at an even more ill-advised speed. There were no crashes. But we were there. This time there were no crashes (as far as I know), but we were not there since the rest of the crew didn't show. My powers of invisibility were great yesterday, my questions met with shrugs and blank stares, turning away… Continue

Things we understand

I found these on the tag listed below(hopefully it listed). There were several great poems on the site.

A FIREMAN'S LIFE

A fireman's life is one big surprise,

Usually he laughs, sometimes he cries.

There's always stress, toil and strife,

Hoping he's good enough to save just one life.

His wife understands, when he misses dinner,

If he runs out of church, don't think he's a sinner.

Answering a call, is tops on his… Continue
