An amazing story, please read!!!

This is a story I just happened to come across on a newspaper's website. I have always been a very patriotic person and take pride in serving my community as a vol. firefighter, but this brought tears to my eyes. Here is the link: http://www.wvgazette.com/News/201003121071

I am sure this story will be made into a movie someday!

By Scott Cook

I recall my very first fire when I joined the Rendon Volunteer Fire Department here in Texas, circa 1988. I’d been through the fire behavior classes, the burn house, PPE instruction and all those things that… Continue

A Jan. 23 ice rescue in Green Bay, Wis., demonstrated how the right preparation and equipment can overcome a significant challenge.

At 1337 hrs, the Green Bay Fire Department dispatched Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Ladder 2, Ambulance 3 (ALS), Ambulance 2 (ALS),… Continue

Run-to-the-Curb: Chief John Buttino

I just posted a new story about a Run-to-the-Curb type kid who rose to the rank of chief in his fire department.

Just as good as the story is are the great photos John has to go with it. I wish I had some photos of my younger years in the fire service, but thank God I have my Log Book to remind me of all the action and the good times we've…

Fire Departments should consider chartering BSA Venture Crews and not just Junior FF or Explorer Posts.

Fire Departments should consider chartering Venture Crews through BSA, either as an addition to Explorer or Junior FF programs, or instead of the firefighting-focused programs entirely.

Here is my reasoning.

Explorer/Jr. FF programs focus exclusively on Firefighting, which often creates a sense in the Juniors that they "are" Firefighters - which they are not.

The Venturing Program is open to young men and women 14-21…

Giving 'Fast Attack' A Bad Name? Houston LODD Differences

In the earlier article, the similarities among the 2009, 2005 and other Houston line of duty deaths were compared using recent department and national reports. This article looks at the differences and the question of whether or not these errors give Houston’s ‘fast attack’ tactic a bad name. The article will also look at the communications in each of the mayday situations.…

Fire Fit 5/ Fit PRO

We purchase 2 Fit Pro, and recently used one at a structure fire. I was wondering what was everyone's elses experience with it and your toughts on them. Like I said we used it recently and it was for the first time, I am not sure if it happen to be a lemon or not, since it did not knock down the fire as instructed that it would do. Might of had a dud who knows.

Notes from a Rookie Firefighter

Notes from a Rookie Firefighter...March 9, 2010

Gosh I can't believe three days have gone by since our pool drill. This is the third year in a row I attended the drill and still I learned something new. I didn't know that you can use pants (regular polyester pants like a police officer would wear) as a flotation device. Simply tie knots in the legs and push water into the waist part. The other thing I didn't remember from last time was the the SCBA is similar to those used in…

GUT vs. JAKE

I am in the market for a ladder belt/escape belt and am wanting to go with the GUT belt. When I was searching for a good price I came across the Sav-a-Jake brand of ladder/escape belts. On paper and picture they look pretty similiar. I was wondering if anyone knows how these two compare...
