Today’s dumbass should’ve just put a flashing neon “arrest me” sign on her car. A 40-year-old Reno, Nevada woman was arrested after authorities saw her driving on the highway with a fuel hose and nozzle sticking out of her gas tank. When they tried to pull her over, they couldn’t get her attention so they called in additional troopers. Not surprisingly, the woman failed her sobriety test…and they’re still trying to find the service station that is missing the…

I was just wondering if anyone else goes on the local news websites and copies and pastes any articles from calls they were on and saves them. Every fire call we are on and the news crews show up usually the next day I go through and save the articles on my computer, I know that sounds wierd doing that and of course I have been called(jokingly though) a freak and such LOL. I like having these I guess don't know why maybe its a phase and it will soon go away. I was wondering if anyone else did…

I am 20 Years old and have been involved in the both career and volunteer Fire and EMS since I was 18. In my Two and a half years in this business I have noticed that I am have a very difficult time staying friends with people my own age. I feel that this job has made me grow up much faster than them. I find myself getting very frustrated with them. I spend my day at work running calls going to fires, car crashes, and medical calls , and for my friends my age their biggest concern in life is…

Ok, so I have to vent or I’m going to lose it. As I sit here at my desk thinking about today’s history in the fire service. I think about all the times I have taught RIT or LODD case studies and see these blank looks. I see these faces go totally blank when I say places like Hackensack, NJ, Worcester, Ma, Keokuk, Ia, Marks, Ms, & Charleston, Sc. Now the last one, I get someone in the course that says…oh yea, those guys in South Carolina that got killed, right? I sit here today and think…

Today’s award goes to New York Giants wide receiver Plaxico Burress. He was drinking at a New York bar early Saturday morning, and of course he was illegally packing a gun with him. The gun slipped down his pant leg, and when he tried to get it back into position, he accidentally shot himself in the leg. Luckily no one else was hurt - except his teammates who now have to play without him due to him being a dumbass. Plaxico is…

WOW we had another incident, a structure fire in an office warehouse that houses electronic bingo games. The call went out as a burglar alarm at around 3 AM and once the Sheriffs got there they were calling it fire thru the roof working structure fire. My Engine (45) was first on scene after the battallion, and was told to check the roof and verify whether it was thru or just a roof fire. we laddered the roof and it appeared to have burnt thru. Then made entry to the adjacent office and found…

A three month old baby was attacked in his own home on Gath Terrace in the City of Tonawanda during Sunday afternoon. Police say one of the family's dogs, an American Staffordshire Terrier, attacked the baby after the mother briefly left the child in a room that was gated off. The mother brought a baby monitor to the bathroom with her but soon after she heard "noise" coming from the monitor. She went back into the room and found her baby injured on the ground. Police say the dog managed to get…

A thief in Leavenworth, Kansas tried to bust open an ATM and almost got himself killed in the process. The 49-year-old man pried an ATM loose from a credit unon this past weekend by using a stolen skid loader, Then, to try to break open the machine, he used the skid loader to drop it down a 50-foot wooded embankment. When the ATM fell, the skid loader and the thief plummeted right along with…

Training got messed up last night due to a bad call, We got sent out at a little after 1800 hrs for fatal auto accident, not a good way to start the night. We actually ended up going on 3 MVC's before things let up, all due to the weather here in the Dayton area. I know ther was nothing more I could do but the mind today is running through what happened and trying to figure out if I could have done something different. I guess its just me but I wonder if everyone feels that way after a bad…

Tonight we have training, to which I am not quite sure what we are covering, although from the schedule we are supposed to go over gas monitors, radios, etc. But no matter what it should be good, even if its something we might know there is always something to pick up each time. there is only 1 more training session for the year in 2 weeks, and barring me getting hurt I will have gotten a perfect attendance on fire training and that will go along with perfect attendance for our EMS training to…

This past weekend our area had some strange dispatching going on that kinda like mad a few of us on the engine wonder, there was a call for a choking at a fastfood restaurant in our district but they only called the medic for it, now granted they said they were breathing and it is our policy that it is dispatcher discreation on who they send, but what was crazy about it was later they sent us to a call and all it said was for a bleed, we get there and the person basicly only stubbed thier toe…

Sorry I wasn't on more this weekend, this was a crew weekend which meant I had to be ready all weekend (Vollie), and then I really haven't been in a good mood all weekend. Just alot going on and quite frankly to damn slow on the calls, which believe it or not is what usually kicks me out of a blue funk. But I do try to get on here to wish all my Brothers and Sisters to be safe. This mood will pass in time and I will be in a better mood soon.

One of my student workers just called me to let me know he wouldn't be into work tomorrow because he was in jail for DUI and bemoaning the fact his car was sized and he would probably lose his license (obviously must not be his first DUI) and all the money he would have to spend in court costs, attorney fees and bail. Not once did he express remorse for what he did and some thankfulness that he didn't cause an accident where someone was hurt or lost their life because of him. All he could…

My father was a fireman, he drove a big red truck
And when he'd go to work each day he'd say "Mother, wish me luck"
Then dad would not come home again until sometime the next day
But the thing that bothered me the most was the things some folks would say
A fireman's life is easy, he eats and sleeps and plays,
and sometimes he won't fight a fire for many, many days
When I first heard these words I was young to understand
But I knew when people had trouble Dad…

LORD,
Grant me the wisdom so that I may treat
those of your children that lay at my feet.
Let my hands be gentle, sure and swift
to impart to them your sacred gift.
Let me see only a patient's need
not their color, race or creed.
Help me always to be my best
even when it's on my hours rest.
Grant me the insight to understand why
patients of mine are going to die.
Let me remember that when they do
there is a wonderful…
