LODD Missouri FF/PARAMEDIC RYAN HUMMERT...Local 2665

Maplewood LODD

IAFF Local 2665 is deeply saddened to announce the Line of Duty Death of Brother Ryan Hummert. Ryan was 22 years old and was weeks away from completing his first year as a full time Fire Fighter Paramedic with the Maplewood Fire Department. Ryan was a tremendous person who was extremely well-liked by everyone who knew him. His life’s ambition was to become a Fire Fighter and to serve the community in which he had been raised. Our thoughts and prayers are with the… Continue

What love means to me

I've had a lot of people ask me what I thought love was or is or what it means. I've been trying to figure out exactly where i stand on that and still dont know. I know what I think it should be but that doesnt make it so. There are so many different kinds of love.

My true and complete love is for my children. They are my world. I would lay down my life for them without a second thought. They make me want to be the best me i can possibly be. I think that is the closest thing I will ever… Continue

senseless loss of life

Lets all pray for the Missouri firefighter who was taken from us today by a sensless situation. A gunman opened fire on him and crew while attempting to extinguish a car fire. Lets remember to always watch our surroundings and be safe. Our thoughts and prayers go out to this young firefighter that was taken today.

A few Pittsburgh Fire Bureau photographs I took

Here are some decent pictures I took while recently in Pittsburgh that are more firefighter related.

Pittsburgh's iconic black and gold theme even resonates down to their fire plugs.

Pittsburgh Fire Bureau's 24 House, at S 18th St and Mary St in the city's famous South Side neighborhood, with downtown buildings Mellon Bank and USX Tower in the background.

SC Fire & Rescue Conference 2008

Well - back from the beach! HAD A BLAST!! The picture is of me and 2 of my new friends. They are members of the NYFD Shields Pipe & Drum Corps who gave a sample of their FANTASTIC talents at the Firefighter Celebration on Friday night at Broadway at the Beach. I also met a lot of GREAT guys and gals at the Advanced Auto Extrication class that I assisted with. We REALLY have some talented people in SC!! I'll be uploading some pictures I took in a couple of days. STAY SAFE!!

Does RIT really work?

Does RIT really work?

Does RIT really work? There is a lot of evidence that RIT teams, no matter how well-trained, are ineffective in saving firefighters in real-life Mayday situations. If this were not the case, we’d be hearing RIT success stories on a daily basis. We don’t.

There are numerous accounts of ineffective RIT responses. Here are a… Continue

Still Out There, But Slightly Swamped

My family (or as you could guess, my wife) seems to give me the best gifts. While not much can top a little SCUBA diving with the whale sharks at the Georgia Aquarium (my birthday present this year, but I actually did the dive this past weekend), for Father’s Day this year my family (read: wife) gave me the super-cool T-Mobile Wing that I have been able to track my life with while on the road, which is a lot of the time. Just ask my boss what “a lot of time” is defined as.

First DOA

For the second time today, I stand in line at the local ice-cream shop. This time, I manage to get my order in and make idle chit-chat with the couple sitting next to me. The boys wait outside, in the medic, enjoying their treats while I, the probie, wait inside with a grumbling stomach. We were here about 30 minutes ago before the tones dropped, sending us on an engine run that would be cancelled before we even got there. This time, however, the tones drop and the voice on my walkie tells me… Continue

Fallen Firefighter Remembered

BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― A young firefighter was killed in Baltimore in a raging fire as a granite wall collapsed. It happened 13 years ago, but he was solemnly remembered Wednesday night.

Suzanne Collins has more on the dedication to firefighter Eric Schaefer.

The fire at Clipper Mill is one few will forget. But the city remembers the huge catastrophe that resulted from it and dedicated efforts of one young firefighter who died that night.

The Job

Well I have been backing Dekalb 911 since March 1st and I can honestly say it has been eye opening! School can get you ready for the job or so you think. School can teach you how to do your job but it doesn't teach you how to deal with the the emotion that come's when you see death. Don't get me wrong, I love my job and I think I have the best job in the world. Where else can you wave at a cop as you run a red light? But when you have to do CPR on someone for awhile and then to have the Drs. at… Continue

One of Delawares PM Killed

A Sussex County paramedic and an 82-year-old patient were killed early Tuesday when the ambulance they were riding in swerved to miss a deer and smashed into a tree.

"We are having our worst day," said Glenn Luedtke, Emergency Medical Services director, while choking up Tuesday and nearly unable to speak. "We are a family."

Killed were paramedic Stephanie L. Callaway, 31, and patient Betty J. Hall, both of Lewes. Callaway was in the rear of the ambulance attending to… Continue

Leaving the slideshow up...

But as an addendum to the thoughts expressed in it, the City of Providence finally saw the errors of their ways and passed the "Presumptive Cancer Ordinance", which essentially states that if a firefighter contracts cancer, it is considered job-related and if they have to retire, they can still receive their retirement benefits. There is a very ugly political story behind it, but that's neither here nor there. Ugly politics is business as usual everywhere, I'm sure.

Point is that the… Continue

Federal Signal Corp. Finally Dumps E-One Off It's Books

This has been a long time coming! Federal Signal Corporation announced after the closing bell on Wall Street yesterday that it has found a buyer for E-One based in Ocala, FL. The purchaser, American Industrial Parters (AIP) is a private equity firm that specializes in investing in medium sized companies. The purchase price was $20 million! In Iraq

I made it to Iraq on 7 July. It is hot here as you would expect. Days are long but not monotonous. I have some of the best people I have met in my years in the Air Force here with me. We have an amazingly strong joint relationship amongst the US Forces. That is really new to me also.

There have been a couple attacks but the insurgents can't aim. God really shields this place well. The daily temperatures are around 120 degrees. There are some things here I can't really speak of but I… Continue
