Elk Grove Village Fire Dept. Physical Exam

I passed! I took the physical exam yesterday afternoon. I was freaking out about it all week because last weekend I took the practice exam and it didnt go so well. I had alot of trouble with the ladder extension(35 ft). So the day after the practice exam I went to home depot, bought myself a rope, a pulley, and some hooks, and I set up my own way to practice. I did that all week and when I went home early on friday, I went up to the fire house and tried the ladder extension again. I busted…

A Fireman's Prayer

When I am called to duty, God,

Whenever flames may rage;

Give me strength to save some life,

Whatever be its age.

Help me embrace a little child

Before it is too late

Or save an older person

From the horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert

And hear the weakest shout,

And quickly and efficiently

To put the fire out.

I want to fill my…

Stafford County lost one of its finest deputies last night.

Deputy Jason Edward Mooney died last night when he lost control of his police cruiser while responding to a call last night around 2245. Mooney was also a volunteer at Stafford Volunteer Fire Department as well as Coles District in Prince William County. We have lost a fine Public Safety Official last night. Let your thoughts and prayers go out to his family and fiancé. I have the story below. http://fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2007/102007/10202007/326883

Precepting, Round 2

"Sam, this is your call," says my favorite paramedic with a wink. "C-Spine," I say more to myself than anyone else as I wrap my hands around our patient's neck. It's my first call ever as a precepting EMT, and it has to be an unrestrained passenger in a two-car motor vehicle collision. Our driver slides a collar under my fingers and secures it in place. As we carefully backboard our patient, I ask him about his pain, run the gamut of SAMPLE questions, and once we have him in our medic, I start… Continue

firefighter quotes

- when a man/woman becomes a firefighter his/her greatest act of bravery has been accomplished, what he/she does after that is all in the line of duty

- when fire is cried and danger is neigh "God and firefighters" is the people cry, but when tis out and all things righted. God is forgotten and the firefighters slighted.

- let no man's ghost return to say his training let him down

- but sound aloud the praises, and give the victor-crown to our noble hearted firemighters,…

Hello

Well Hello, My name is Steve. But Most People in MD call me Canada...For good reason, I am from Canada.

I was tired of playing raisin hockey in EMS shuffling old people around. I wanted something with more excitment in an atmosphere where I could learn more at an excelerated rate. I have lots of experience in EMS but not alot in Fire however I am anxiously awaiting VRS and my FF1 and EMT.. You Might be a Firefighter if...

1.You can tell what type of fire it is by the smell of smoke 10 miles away.

2.You have ever had a heated debate over the color of firetrucks.

3.You have ever spent 10 min trying to force open a door only to have someone come along and open it by turning the handle.

4.You have ever taken 10 or more showers in 1 day.

5.You lay out your cloths from that…

Clancy Hill Apts

Well I went to my first structure fire tonight. We were mutual aid for the city... actually the entire county was mutual aid on this one. I went POV and had to park in the mall parking lot next to the complex, there was an 8 ft chain link fence between me and the apts. So what do you think a rookie at his first structure fire did? You got it; I scaled that thing like a cat and had my turnout gear thrown to me by a PD officer controlling the crowd. As soon as I came around the corner I could… Continue

Giving Back

A little history on My Hero Stocking Co. My bestfriends husband went through the fire academy and seeing the hard work and dedication that it took was incredible. I take my hat off to all of you who have done it! I decided that I was going to get him his first Firefighter Christmas Stocking, well I spent weeks looking on the internet and couldn't find anything that I was really crazy about so I decided to design my own Christmas Stocking for him. I made the pattern and when his wife and I were… Continue
