- when a man/woman becomes a firefighter his/her greatest act of bravery has been accomplished, what he/she does after that is all in the line of duty

- when fire is cried and danger is neigh "God and firefighters" is the people cry, but when tis out and all things righted. God is forgotten and the firefighters slighted.

- let no man's ghost return to say his training let him down

- but sound aloud the praises, and give the victor-crown to our noble hearted firemighters, who frear not danger's frown

- i have no ambition in this world but one, and that is to be a firefighter. the position may, in the eyes of some, appear to be a lowly one; but we who know the work which the firefighters have to do believe that his/hers is a noble calling. our proudest moment is to save lives.

- i can think of no more stirring symbol of man's humanity to man that a fire engine.
