Back In the Saddle

I’m back to work after being a stay-home mom for a while to take care of the two youngest in our house. This year the youngest started school, and I started working for a paid EMS service two days a week. I work two 12 hour shifts – that’s really all I need. My agency responds to emergencies, as well as doing inter-facility transports. I worked yesterday and we did a couple of emergencies and then a bunch of transports, some to nursing homes and some to residences. I prefer the latter - the… Continue

thanksgiving

Well guys I am back from a long conference trip and ready to get back to work. I noticed the blog entry of the lost firefighter from NYC. My regrets for the life lost in the line of duty and would like to let the family and fellow firefighters know that our prayers are with you at this time of loss. To all those still out there doing what they do everyday. I am Thankful that there are people that still choose to serve no matter what is going on or what is at risk. Thank you for the dedication… Continue

Can You Help Me Find Pictures?

Hey all! Well I said I was going to get around to this so I better get started. I want to make a new Slide featuring SAR and Schtz dogs. I really don't want to surf around and just get random pics, I'd like to know a bit of a story about the dogs in the Slide if possible. Obviously I'd post the Slide here once I got it finished, a few days after I get enough pictures.

Is anybody willing to send me pics of any service dogs they know? I'm also willing to include therapy and disability… Continue

Happy Thanksgiving

Basically, thanksgiving is an American holiday! For us there are lot of things to thank about everything. The month of November will be a significant event for us. Our early completion of monthly payment of our first and very own - dubbed The Alliance Tanker (picture at front page). This is one of our achievement so far since our brigade was conceived last November 2006. We have completed a one-year project for full acquisition of this fire apparatus. We have experience ups and down with… Continue

Medic Shift

Tonight I am supposed to run on our medic and being the day after a holiday it makes me wonder how much action we will have tonight, quite frankly I would like a slow night, but at the same time I would like some runs so I can hopefully get all of my assessments done before the deadline of Dec 8th, I would go to the hospitals and do some clinicals but I have noone to watch my daughter during the day. So all I can do is be patient (not one of my best virtues) and let things play out natuarlly.

Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving has been here and gone, as for my family and I we had a wonderful time. We had fixed a 20lbs bird and made mashed potoatos and green beans, while other family members made the rest of the fixins. We did have a very wonderful time. The other part of the spectrum which was pleasant was we did not have any emergencies in the Township other than a few injury from falls, so our Engine didn't roll until 11:45 last night to a nursing home for a medic assist. So I was able to spend the… Continue

FIREMAN'S WIFE

THIS IS DEDICATED TO MY WIFE. WITHOUT HER LOVE AND SUPPORT I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE A VOLUNTEER FIREFIGHTER.

THE TABLE'S SET, THE MEAL'S PREPARED, OUR QUESTS WILL SOON ARRIVE. MY HUSBAND ONCE MORE DISAPPEARS WITH A HOPE OF KEEPING A CHILD ALIVE. WHILE WAITING AT HOME AGAIN ALONE, OUR PLANS HAVING GONE AWRY. MY FIRST IMPULSE IS MERELY TO SIT DOWN AND CRY. BUT SOON AGAIN I REALIZE THE IMPORTANCE OF MY LIFE WHEN AGREED TO TAKE ON THE DUTIES OF BEING A FIREMAN'S WIFE. WHILE THERE ARE… Continue

FIREMEN DON'T HAVE A CHANCE

WHEN THE TRUCKS ARE DELAYED 40 SECONDS IN TRAFFIC,

PEOPLE SAY: " IT TOOK THEM 20 MINUTES TO GET HERE."

WHEN THE TRUCK RACES AT 40 MPH, ITS "LOOK AT THOSE RECKLESS FOOLS."

WHEN FOUR MEN STRUGGLE WITH AN EIGHT-MAN LADDER: "THEY DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO RAISE A LADDER."

WHEN FIREMEN OPEN WINDOWS FOR VENTILATION TO REDUCE HEAT IN FIGHTING A FIRE: LOOK AT THE WRECKING CREW."

WHEN THEY OPEN THE FLOOR… Continue

I WISH YOU COULD

I WISH YOU COULD SEE THE SADNESS OF A BUSINESS MAN AS HIS LIVELIHOOD GOES UP IN FLAMES OR THAT FAMILY RETURNING HOME, ONLY TO FIND THEIR HOUSE AND BELONGINGS DAMAGED OR DESTROYED.

I WISH YOU COULD KNOW WHAT IT IS TO SEARCH A BURNING BEDROOM FOR TRAPPED CHILDREN, FLAMES ROLLING ABOVE YOUR HEAD, YOUR PALMS AND KNEES BURNING AS YOU CRAWL, THE FLOOR SAGGING UNDER YOUR WEIGHT AS THE KITCHEN BENEATH YOU BURNS.

I WISH YOU COULD COMPREHEND A WIFE'S HORROR AT 3 A.M. AS I CHECK HER… Continue

Why Fire Engines are red

Fire engines are red

Roses are Red

Two Plus two equals four

Four times three equals twelve

There are twelve inches in a ruler

Queen Mary was a ruler and a ship at sea

There are fish in the sea

The fish have fins

The fins fought the Russians

The Russians are red

Fire Engines are red because they are always rushin'

IN THE LIFE OF A CHILD A FIREFIGHTER CAME

A Child Was Sleeping In His Room, Alone, When Suddenly A Fire Was Consuming His Home. Alone And Afraid To Run From The Smoke, He Moved Not A Muscle 'Til The Firefighter Spoke. "Son, I'll Take You Away From All Harm." And Wrapped The Child In A Reassuring Arm. Through Dense Smoke And Heat, Both Firefighter And Child Fought. " I Must Protect This Child," Was The Firefighters Thought. Child Clinging To The Firefighter As They Crawled On The Floor: Oh Where Oh Where Is The Opening Of That Door?… Continue

Extra reasons to be thankful

This Thanksgiving we all have something we are thankful for. Perhaps it's still having a job. Perhaps it's the addition to your family. Perhaps it's bringing your family together for a day of festivities. My family has been one that has been crunched by the economic issues we have all been facing. Construction has been a booming industry in my area and now we are all doing the law of the jungle theory. (survival of the fittest) The true companies with the best quality and good prices are the… Continue

Loss of a fellow volunteer firefighter/a father

Yesterday, I loss someone close to me. My father," Richie Roberts" passed away in his sleep. I'm lost right now for words to say. But, please say a prayer for my family in our time of need. Montgomery Dept. 4. in the 60's. Dad was proud to serve all of us. That is one of the reasons I became a volunteer fireman to… Continue
