Books for Emergency Service Families

I am a book junkie, especially when it comes to my office. I really like to have a lot of resources relating to the work that I do as a chaplain on hand. I have learned quite a bit from reading various titles on grief, trauma, traumatic stress, abuse, and fire & police families. I have learned a lot in my education but there is always room to learn more. Reading books helps me better myself as a chaplain.

In Honor of a Marine

I want to Say Happy Birthday to a man I look up to that helped make me the man I am today. A man that on Oct. 23rd, 2008 passed away. This man was my father. He may not have always been the nicest of people, but he was a good man. My Father served in the United States Marine Corps from 1964 to 1968 nd spent 1 year 3months and 17 days in Vietnam. His time there finally was the cause of his death of heart proublems. My father lived by a Moto that was "Semper Fi" Always Faithful! that he was… Continue

Daily Dumbass: Good Morning Comrades!

Below is today's Daily Dumbass, taken from KCMQ.com. It has nothing to do with the election. But, I have to say, Good Morning Comrades. Welcome to the Peoples Republic of the US led by Comiseaur Obama.

Some loony in California caused a massive traffic shutdown in Santa Barbara yesterday….he put on a ski mask and waved an American flag and a handgun on a freeway overpass for about 3 hours. Crisis negotiators finally got him to drop his weapon and surrender after giving him his… Continue

Say goodbye to freedom

With our newest President we can expect may new changes. Starting with our freedom!!! I can't believe that so many people fell for the double talk comming from the Democrats. Now will he let the public see his real birth records or will they stay sealed? How soon will he be "redistributating" our money? Well at least I won't have to worry about putting gas in my truck, or making my mortgage payments. He promised that HE would take of them for me.

Weird Personal Safety

Received this article in a Safety Journal. It is really interesting. Full of safety facts we might not think of. For instance, do not squash a yellow jacket because it causes other yellow jackets to attack.

Over the years, we’ve all used miscellaneous safety tips to add a bit of spice to an otherwise humdrum safety meeting or newsletter. But where do you find these tidbits? Here are five… Continue

Homeland Security Funding

Everyday I get the EMI Higher Education Report. I thought everyone would be interested in this section. It talks about Homeland Security Funding. Fire Department grants are included. Looks like funding will increase this year. I have reprinted the section below. This was taken from the November 3, 2008 report.

(3) State and Local Homeland Security Funding:

Congressional Research Service (Shawn Reese). FY2009 Appropriations for State and Local Homeland Security (RS22805).… Continue

Daily Dumbass November 4, 2008

Another drunk driving dumbass for today. An Austrian man, charged with drunk driving, drove to the police station to complain about the charge….while he was drunk. The 65-year-old had his license and car keys taken away by authorities on Sunday. He then went home, picked up his spare keys, went back to the abandoned car and drove to the police station to explain why he was unhappy with the DUI. Police could tell when he got there that he was drunk, so he was charged with a SECOND… Continue

Notes from a Rookie Firefighter

Here it is, November 3, and we are already more than half-way done with our class. Now the stuff starts to get amazing. Amazing because things are starting to come together.

We had a vehicle fire tonight. You know it looks so easy when you see it on TV, but holding the hose line, and prying open the hood with the irons, that is HARD!!! We all got a turn being on the nozzle, second person, prying open the hood person, then being the backup crew when another crew took the… Continue

Halloween is NOT just for Republicans!

Taken from KCMQ.com.

I know political tensions are high, but there’s no reason to bring the kids into it and ruin Halloween. A Detroit woman put a sign outside her house on Halloween that read “No handouts for Obama supporters, liars, tricksters or kids of Obama supporters.” She then only gave candy to McCain supporters and their kids. Come on lady…most kids don’t support a political candidate - and Halloween should be for everyone, not just… Continue
