Just wanted to say hey to all the firefighters that look up my page! I really love this website...its nice to have a place to go to talk to people who understand what you do and why you do it. When people ask me why I would ever want to be a firefighter, its so hard to explain to them how a passion this strong can make you overlook but respect danger just so you can help people. At the end of the day, I still don't think they understand why anyone would, famous quote,…

God -

grant me the serenity to accept the thing I cannont change,

And Heaven Cries..

Another poem..

Fellow responders stand tall, silent tears slowly fall

And all of heaven cries, when a firefighter dies.

Having given absolutely all, no more to answer the call

And all of heaven cries, when a firefighter dies.

Grief and pride fill every face, no one will ever take you place.

And all of heaven cries, when a firefighter dies.

As we lay you down to rest, it puts our strength to the test.

Tears rain down and…

The Medic

This is a poem I found circulating on MySpace.

The medic stood and faced God which must always come to pass.

He hoped his uniform was clean, He'd gotten dressed kinda fast.

"Step forward now, paramedic. How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek? To my church have you always been true?"

The medic squared his…

Firefighter's Prayer

When I'm called to duty god wherever flames may rage give me strength to save a life whatever be its age

Help me to embrace a little child before it is too late or save an older person from the horror of that fate

Enable me to be alert to hear the weakest shout and quickly and efficiently to put the fire out I want to fill my calling and to give the best in me to guard my neighbor and protect his property

And if according to your will I have to lose my life bless with…

Great Lakes Burn Camp

Next year for the Great Lakes Burn camp, or Fire Department would like to work with the community in raising money to actually send a few children to camp. Mattawan is a small town so our resources are kind of minimal so I was wondering if anybody has any fund raising ideas for us?

Life on the Lieutenant's side

I started my five shift mentorship last night. Its part of the process for me to clear as a riding out of class lieutenant. Even though I've spent the last year going to class and learning all the things that I have, I still wasn't ready for the moment when I had to put my gear in the front right seat of the truck.

As I stood outside, the truck grew about ten feet taller. I guess I felt the same way when I first started riding out of class as an engineer. It was that moment when it…

Should children witness childbirth?

Due to a power outage, only one paramedic responded to the call. The

house

was very dark so the paramedic asked Kathleen, a 3-yr old girl to hold

a

flashlight high over her Mommy so he could see while he helped deliver

the

baby. Very diligently, Kathleen did as she was asked.

Heidi pushed and pushed and after a little while, Conner was born. The

paramedic lifted him by his…

A Firemans Tears

A Fireman's Tears

The alarm rang, as it had so many times before.

He was the first of the fireman up and out,

Awakened from his bed at the station

By the clanging of the bell.

As Engine 3 pulled out of the bay,

Dispatch paged another station.

And all the firemen aboard the truck

Were tensed with anticipation

"It's gonna be a nice 'un, boys,"

He said as he donned his gear.

And the young… Continue

Hi my name's Jordan and I live in a very tiny town in Southeast Indiana. The departments here are privately owned and are volunteer. There are hardly any structure fires but it's still interesting because people burn the craziest things. We deal with people burning furniture, Christmas trees, and tires! And we always get calls for the stray cow now and then. We have 3 stations with over 12 trucks (depending if we sold the older ones that we've replaced). That's about it, a tiny boring town with… Continue

superette fire

CASSVILLE, HUNTINGDON COUNTY - A popular restaurant and store in Cassville were destroyed by the fire. The fire dealt a significant blow to the Southern Huntingdon County Community because residents were going to kick off their October-Fest celebration the day of the fire. It was about one in the morning when the emergency alarms were sounded around the rural community of Cassville. While firefighters quickly responded, there was little they could do to save the…
