CASSVILLE, HUNTINGDON COUNTY - A popular restaurant and store in Cassville were destroyed by the fire. The fire dealt a significant blow to the Southern Huntingdon County Community because residents were going to kick off their October-Fest celebration the day of the fire. It was about one in the morning when the emergency alarms were sounded around the rural community of Cassville. While firefighters quickly responded, there was little they could do to save the small commercial building. Trough Creek Fire Chief Chris Bair says the fire was quickly spreading when he and crew members arrived on the scene. The burning building was located at the intersection of Seminary Road and State Route 3019. The fire appeared to start in the end of the building that housed the Cassville family restaurant. From there it spread into the section that where the Cassville Superette food market was located. The entire building was quickly engulfed in flames and Firefighters said there was little they could contain but contain the flames to that one building. Fortunately, the fire did not spread to the near-by gas pumps or under ground tanks. Early indications are that the fire started with an electrical problem in the restaurant end of the building. It has tentatively been ruled accidental but a state police fire marshal was to visit the scene on Friday in an effort to confirm that finding. There were no injuries reported during the fire fighting operation. In addition to the loss of the businesses, this fire is expected to be a big blow for the community of Cassville because many of the supplies for this weekends October-fest were in the building that burned. Still community volunteers said that weekend festival would go on as planned.
